Coming home from Brisbane today I saw a fairly tidy black s series just like the pic above valiant for sale in a paddock not far out of Brunswick heads. about 10 minutes later I passed another black s series on the back of a tilt tray heading North. I didnt see any holdens older than 90's commodores going up or back though :(

Now s and r series Vals are uncommon at the best of times but 2 in one day and the same colour !!!
I really like the r series but I'd take an S series in a heartbeat!

Comments

My Dad had 2 R models (the first was only about 6 months old He bought at a car yard on Parramatta Road). Mum has had 2 S models. Still has one that I drove recently when I visited. I’ve been trying to buy off her but she more-or less told me the other day she has willed it to me. But I can’t wait that long to get my hands on it.

I remember in the 90's these models commanded a pretty hefty price for a tidy one. judging by the prices of the ones I see now the demand seems to have waned and they seem more affordable. maybe this is just my observation though?

Good ones fetch between 18,000-25,000. When I took mums for a drive a couple of weeks ago Mum said it was leaking water and overheating. I took it for a drive and drove it like I stole it and it performed faultlessly

I think a lot of us are closet Valiant fans.
My dad AP6, VC and VE Valiant wagons when I was growing up. They were great cars.
But I think my favourite was the little Hillman Californian he had when I was five or 6 years old. I loved that liitle car.

they built them not far from where I lived when young..but I never really liked them at the time...not long after driving (early 80s) one guy I knew was gifted a green safari wagon from his grand parents...we all gave him a real hard time and laughed at him - he quickly got rid of it...the girl next door's boyfriend had a Chrysler drifter panel van that we all hated with a passion...another mate's dad had one of these R series from new and offered it to him at a low price - even then it was quite special - but he didn't want it so his dad moved it along...my girlfriend's dad had VG valiant that I scribbled all over one night when drunk..he never found out and she kept the secret from him - I would have been toasted..now I've become more appreciative and fond of them...funny how things change...very distinctive those R series...

In the closet David? Not me, I’m out and proud.
I’ve got a real thing for the early Valiant, Dodge, Plymouth “A” bodies. I’ve had around 28 AP5, AP6, VC. Had a VF coupe, VG Mexicana (they’re a rare coupe). It was mint and I bought it for $300 for sale on the side of the road. The owner thought the engine was on the way out, it was just a sticky valve).
I’ve had my AP5 Safari for 20 years, all my kids learnt to drive in it. Bought the ‘65 Barracuda for the Missus and I’m doing up a ‘63 Dodge Dart convertible at the moment and a ‘65 AP6 Wayfarer, Rat Style. My wife’s first car was a Hilman Hunter, Mine was a Chrysler Centura, first daughter had a ‘75 Galant.
But...I still love my Old Holden’s.

Thanks Blue FC, I like the styling of these 33-34 Plymouth’s/Dodges. Something different than ANOTHER 32-34 Ford.
A like while ago I went and bought a good 318 of a bloke who was rodding a 34 Dodge coupe (had a good 34 sedan as a parts car too)

surfwagon, aussie got 3 windows .usa had 5 window coupes(the opposite to ford,we got 5 windows and the states got 3)as far as i can find out there were 35 holden bodies built and 64 tj richards bodies (there are numerous differences between them, the holden bodies looks neater but im not bias am i ? :) .there also seems to have been a couple of hundred 3 windows built in canada but ive never seen one(probably all gone from snow and salty roads).
