Holden Club of W.A.

Hi all,
I have been wanting to join a car club in Perth for some time now and have found the holden club of wa. Just wondering if anyone here is a member of this club and or can tell me any info as to whether or not it would be worth me joining. The main reason behind joining a club is so i can go out with other holden (particulary old holden) enthusiests to car shows (not quite there but getting there), cruises/meets and just general stuff.
My other question is is that i have heard down the grape vine that if you are part of a registered club that your car registration reduces, Passing your car over pits (if need be of course), they are a little more lenient on you. Just wanting to know partiulary to perth if this is true or a complete load of crap.
If i hear from people good recomendations of this club, then thats good enough for me to join. The cheaper registration would i suppose just be an added bonus i guess. I just love my old holden and appreciate others who have the same passion that i do for the classic and classy cars.
Any info or thoughts are greatly appreciated
Regards
Matty

As I've been told, the deal with the rego is that the car has to be completely 100% original as it could have come out of the factory. No non-factory standard mods are allowed. I think you are up for a yearly inspection with the club as well.

Also, if you get past that, the car can only be used for Club runs or for taking to a mechanic for servicing or maintenance, ie. everyday use or even just for a sunday drive to no where is not allowed.

I'm sure someone will corect me if I'm wrong... but that's what I was told by someone who had talked to a club about it.

I've been researching this in WA.
Yes, your car has to be 100 % original.
Club rego only costs about $50 or $100 per year, BUT you can ONLY drive the car...
1. at (or to and from) a club event
2. to and from mechanics and licensing and repairs
3. to buy parts when you need to be sure they'll fit
4. You're allowed one test drive per month.

The real rort is the last one. Any time you get pulled over you're on your one test drive per month, right? Just means you can't drive it for the rest of the month after your chat with the boys in blue.
The car club only requires your car to be roadworthy, its The dept. of infrastructure and planning who require the car to be 100 % original (this doesnt mean matching engine & frame numbers, just no modifications.)
Hope this helps.

Hey people just been reading your comments about club rego and have established absolutly no benifits of joining a club. Except to be involved in a car club of course. If your car has to be 100% original, i'd dare say your car would be in pretty good nick so getting it registered shouldn't be a problem. Then you wouldn't have any worry's about when, where and why you are driving your car. I'm a little confused about the whole deal so can someone please clarify it up for me. I could fully understand the needs for restrictions on your club car if you had 6/71 blower hanging out of it, but [Naughty Pottyword] 100% original???

Clubs in WA are all political wankers. I tried to join the FJFX club here and they told me that because my car was not orig, that I should join Perth Street Machiners.

They told me they did'nt think my car would fit in. So there are two clubs in Perth that I was willing to part with my hard earned readies, and they wanted nothing of it. So [Naughty Pottyword]em I say.

have a look at this site here in Perth, there are a bunch of guys that get together, go on cruises and meet at the Guildford hotel. and a number of other things.

No club bull[Naughty Pottyword] polotics, no my cars better that your car bull[Naughty Pottyword], just no bull[Naughty Pottyword]. all cars are welcome too.

Hey guys,
Thanks to all who responded with their info on clubs. Much appreciated. I did not realise that if you are part of a car club there were restrictions to your use of driving your vehicle. Ive spent a lot of hard earned cash on my car and im not gonna join a club if it means me only being allowed (technically of course) to drive it once a month. If it means being original, then there is no way my car would meet that. fjv653 and dnar did not know about this cruizin "no bull[Naughty Pottyword]" meet. If all cars are welcome (does that include fords) then i have a bunch of mates that would definately be up for a meet and cruise. Especially me. And if you guys will be there 2 all the more worth while.
Thanks again for the info. Doesnt look like ill be joining the clubs then. Better to find out now than later.

Any Toyota five speed will be fine.
If the motor is only mildly tweaked even a early 1600 alloy case would do.
A steel case (2litre Toyota) would be plenty.
Are you putting a Holden rear end in it as well? If you keep the Land Rover rear end and the Land Rover ratios are up around 4:1 you will probably find the Toyota first gear pretty useless.
