holden HQ-HZ Electric Tailgate

Hi all, i purchased a tailgate with an electric tailgate assembly and loom complete from a wreckers and installed into HJ wagon. gave it alot of TLC to clean it up and free the moving parts (not the motor) and i am having issues with the motor not having the power to either fully raise or fully lower the tailgate glass depending on how the tailgate spring is set, i cannot find any chat about this issue at all and am curious if anyones had the same problem of the motor not having the power to function properly? should i rewind/fix the motor? any help and information about this would be great

Get a multi-meter & check how much voltage you have at the motor (to earth at the motor). Any voltage drop will cause the motor to struggle. Bad connections or crook relays will cause problems.

Motor probably needs to be rebuilt.
It's probably full of carbon, rust, bugs and old hard grease.

A while ago I got all the electronics out of an old ford mondeo, I did get somewhat grumpy and got a grinder out too. The electric window mech was reused. The door windows are curved but I straightened the metal guides surprisingly easily in a press. Heaps of power from the motor. Cool story hey.

As above, they were heavy windows and hard to raise.
Might want to grease the moving parts and also a spray of silicone around the channels each side will help.

Id run a decent size jumper from the battery direct to the motor and see if the problem is in the wiring or the motor?
Is there 12 volts at the motor when its trying to run ?
How much current is the motor using compared to its rating if its way over amps and gutless most likely a couple of segments in the commutator are burnt out.Assuming the mech isn't jammed which you've said is working smoothly.
