A bloke at work lent me this today.
It is dated June 1966.
It lists the X2 motor as an accessory.
The only transmission choices are 3 on the tree manual or Powerglide. There is NO four speed option mentioned for the ute or van.
It also lists optional equipment: tinted windscreen, optional power assisted disc brakes, limited slip diff, 186 or X2 engine, power steering. I wonder if left any left the factory with X2, Powerglide, power steer and LSD?
More pictures of attached, including the mighty X2 (image 1522) with it's gold air filter AND oil cap.

Yep that’s right No 4 speed in a HR as far as I know
I asked the “Holden fan” to put a pic up of his ID build plates so I could match them up in my books...... still waiting
My old HR Ute was a factor 161 3 speed, we did a 186 and a 4 speed swap back in the day, as a lot of people did

It was available with the 186S.
The HR186S Opel four speed had a cast alloy bottom plate that leaked horribly. But not available in the commercials, apparently.
This brochure was issued before the 186S came out.
The HK Opel four speed had a pressed steel bottom plate.
I could be wrong, but I think they were that way around.

Old is good.

there was a 4 speed available in the later HRs def in Sep 67 as there is Aust Motor magazine test articles on it...my HR Owner's manual is also dated June 66...it refs various options such as X2 engine, instruments, power steering, LSD, electric station wagon window etc but only covers the 3 speed manual and powerglide as transmissions..no 4 speed mentioned

Poor old Nev will have to go and canvas a few more old mates who’ll reassure him that’s it’s super rare and the only one in existence due to (insert your own BS here) and be back on here to tell us all.

I have a copy of a modern motor mag from around 1966 showing a 'prototype'? HR 2 door V8. From memory it was modified in the factory into the 2 door body style and they stuffed a 283 into it for 'evaluation'. What ever happened to it? The Chev V8 fitting would be easy to do using the adaptors between the front suspension cross member and the V8 engine mounts, etc used on the HK HT HG Chev powered models?

I have no idea if you could or couldn't get a 4 speed in a HR commercial but I wouldn't put too much faith in saying because it isn't in the brochure that it wasn't available. Many things that weren't in the "brochure" so to speak ended up factory fitted to cars. My Belmont (2/74) is factory Saffron Metallic but if you look on the 1974 colour brochure it lists Saffron Metallic as being available on all HQ's except Belmont.

I thought old mate with the prototype had a wagon?
