Sydney to Forster would have
Sydney to Forster would have almost needed an overnight stop back then.
We used to go to the Entrance at Christmas. It was usually a 7 or 8 hour trip from Hornsby. Today it's about 45 minutes.
I remember dad doing a 48 point turn (seemed like it) with the caravan on the back at Hornsby near the fire station and going via Wisemans Ferry one year. Even that took 5 hours.

Old is good.
Turning around
Have to laugh at people towing vans at how they used to do the 48 point U turn or even reverseing, my dad was a cane famer and worked as a “electric instrument fitter” at a sugar mill,
Anyway h drive’n all types of trucks and farm equipment ment he was pretty good at reversing and narrowing it down to a 6 point turn, lol
I remember a bloke asking my dear old dad if he could reverse his car and van in the spot to park for the couple of days straight and spot on like he did, then asked “how did you do that”
Dad would always say “ practice “ lol
As I always say
Stay safe all

My dad could could reverse a van as good as anyone.
He did the U turn with the van in College Cr, Hornsby, on the hill coming up to the Pacific Highway. In bumper to bumper traffic. We sat there until he had a gap in front, then he did it. It is a two lane street, not overly wide.
David
Old is good.

yes the road distances and speeds have been reduced drastically haven't they? When we lived in PNG ( in the 50's early 60's)the road trip from Madang to Lae was approx. 2 or 3 days as bridges were crap if any and now the highway goes well above the rivers no need to drive down the mountainside to the river, cross it and then up the other side countless times. Takes 3 hours now from 3 day journey, my how times have changed for the better for the PNG people.
Cheers, Lindsay.

I can remember when a 6 hour trip was making good time from here (Port Macquarie) to Sydney.
Now it's well under 4 hours including a pee stop.
