HZ power steering conversion

Hi all, I am thinking of converting the new HZ one tonner to power steering during the rebuild. What will I need? Obviously I'll need the pump and brackets for the 308, power steering box and hoses. What about the steering arms and draglink, are they different?
If anyone has a setup they would like to sell let me know. Cheers.

Well worth the trouble especially with what your daily driver is now and also considering your age, no nastyness intended.

You will also need a two or three belt pully depending whether you intend to fit air and make sure you get the spacers and bolts for everything, saves a lot of running around.

I have read here a lot of people say you should change the steer arms to the shorter HQ but I rebuilt a 6 cylinder HZ tonner in 1990 and fitted air and steer and used the HZ existing arms, yes it was naturally lighter than had I used the shorter arms but I drove it for 6 years that way and did 100,000 ks with no problems. The draglink stays as is, well at least it did on mine.

There has also been talk here about the coupling from shaft to box but I left mine as it was.

don't use the long arms with power steer , the steering will be too light and have a shocking turning circle.
Drive a Dunger long enough you think its the norm

The root cause was greed

Just the shorter steering arms and the power steering coupling from the pump to the intermediate shaft, oh and the pulley, drag link is ok. Look on eBay for a complete kit $300 - $350.

Edit: you don't change out the steering arms your u-turns become 3 point turns! Also the spline on the manual to power steering shaft is different. Gary is right, plenty of people leave the arms as long and just put up with it, anythings better than manual steering.

The engine has a 3 belt pulley on it BUT the groove furthest to the front of the car has been removed. My question is which groove does the power steer belt run in originallly? Is it the front or rear as I know the water pump alternator is is the middle. I'll check out the steering coupling today and see what is needed.

I had a complete power steer set up sent to me from near Campbelltown NSW to Brisbane Qld for just over 26 bucks.

It was tied onto a skid (small timber pallet), and was picked up from the sellers door and delivered to my door within a few days all up.

All you need is the dimensions of the package and the weight - from memory, I think the weight was about 40kg's with the drag link included.

You can get an online quote instantly, just by typing the info into their site quote estimator. It was a while ago since I had mine sent up, so I just did a quick check on it now and it comes in at just over $31, bloody cheap I reckon.

I have used them quite a few times now and have been very happy with their service - especially at their price!

As the others have pretty well covered, you will need the steering box, the pitman arm, the coupling between the box and intermediate shaft, the pump and bolts, brackets and spacers, the high and low pressure fluid lines, the pulley and although not absolutely essential the shorter arms.

The power steering box input shaft is slightly bigger than the manual one, so you will need the coupling. you could possibly stretch the manual one to fit, but I wouldn't recommend it.

boxes, aussie post, 1 box for pump and brackets, other for box, drain all fluids, box up, wrap in black plastic shrink that is $23 for roll of about 500m, label and address, i sent a pump steer kit to perth just the other day was about $50 in total and got there in 5 days, cant beat that for service
