BV holden 308 number

A mate of mine recently picked up a 308 with the engine number starting with the prefix BV.He was informed that it came out of a Bedford truck and on closer inspection we discovered she had a cast iron water pump{never seen one of these before}and an unusual bell housing bolt pattern which is possibly to suit the chev boxes but didn't have another block to compare it with.Does anyone know which gear boxes were used in these trucks and if indeed it is a turbo bolt pattern.

Hi Ashmonkey,
Dont want to sell the 308 do you?? I am chasing one for my (Strangely enough) Bedford Truck!

http://i6.photobucke...

but in answer to your question,
the gearbox used on the TK and TJ series is the same bolt pattern as the Turbo boxes.
IF you are keen to keep the motor and fit it to something other than a Bedford, I would be interested in the Bell housing and flywheel, if it has these, so I can then add then to another 308 for the truck??
Cheers
Matt

I'll let my mate know as soon as he gets back from over east,{gone off to catch some of the V8 supercar rounds} or you can e-mail him at
WAYSTEVENS@OPTUSNET....
try it in lowercase letters if the above don't work but thats how he wrote it down on the piece of paper.
My mate might be interested in swapping blocks as this was going to become a stroker for his torana project but he resides in metro Perth.Unfortunately he does not have the bell housing or flywheel.

Thanks I will send him an email, these are usually set up as low comp motors, as high compression blows head gasket (at no 7 piston usually) but Perth is a long way from me in Melbourne for a block swap!
Thanks for the heads up though!
Matt

If the engine prefix starts with 11 it's out of a statesman, also spent a bit of time typing in the code to view your Bedford truck and she looks a treat.

Thanks for the comment on the Bedford, I am pretty computer useless, so didnt know how to link the photo like others have??
Dusty would be interested in the 308, Ultimately a good BV block is gonna be hard to come by now! and it is just me being pedantic!

Would love to talk more about the 308!

I got the motor as is so cannot vouch for it but the bottom end is still assembled, Bores and pistons are std and look quite good, Heads look nice and clean, there's a 4 barrel factory manifold with it. It does have a broken head bolt thread but am assured this is common place and of no concenquince. Been after $400 for it but happy to get $350.
