Position of studs (revets) for windscreen trim on HJ Caprice

Hi all, happy Sunday.

Two questions regarding my HJ Caprice (not Kingswood):

1. Does anyone know where I can find a rough positioning of the small studs (now rivets) that the clips slide onto? I had to remove several of mine to do rust repairs, need to replace them, and don't have a "donor" car to check positioning. It would appear that the front has 6 across the top and 9 across the bottom, and the rear has 8 across the top, four down each side, and xxxxx (????) across the bottom, but the bottom ones don't appear to be symmetrical (left to right) for some reason.

2. Front windscreen side surround trims - these are attached by screws, not rivets / clips. They APPEAR to be tapped, not self tappers as such. Is this correct? If so, I need to re-drill / tap two holes (one each side towards the bottom) where rust repairs have been done. Does anyone know what size / thread type it is? (It's definitely tapped, and I only have metric taps at hand.)

The parts book says there are 10 clips on the lower mould, my HZ has 10 razor blade clips plus an extra different style clip at each end about 50mm from "A" pillar, there are 2 types of clips to suit either original studs or the service option of screws to replace missing studs , or you can use the rivets available today. My studs/rivets are placed as :-
1st one is approx 63mm from screen centre line
2nd is another 132mm
3rd is another 180mm
4th is another 175mm
5th is another 132mm
6th is another 140mm ( 50mm from "A" pillar
all dimensions are approximate and as they are fairly random placings might not be over important.
One point to mention is the side moulding are screwed on but with self tapping screws, the holes are not tapped for bolts ( at least not in factory ). The screws were part #SP2192 but that probably won't mean much to anyone, Rares or the like probably cover them in windscreen kits. Don't use any longer than necessary or you will crack the screen ! HJ Caprice and Kingswood are both body style 69 so fitment the same.Cheers Ken

Very comprehensive, thanks Ken. One question - the measurements you've stated, are they for the front windscreen?

Matt Q

Yeah Matt the dimensions are for bottom front screen , the rear screen does not have those studs/clips, bottom mould is held in place by clips that lock into mould and a tab then screws to lower framing ( you should see the holes unless you have replaced the window sill section )there is also a SS flat strip that hooks into mould and covers the fixing tabs. I'll try for a couple of pics , I recently replaced the sill piece on my HZ
Cheers Ken
