that's a nice looking Statesman...I note it has a WB door mirror and they have put the emblem in the WB position rather than HZ which was on the bonnet..

yes that emblem was on the HJ-HZ caprice...it was on the bonnet, in the middle of the steering wheel, on each door card and the rear vinyl roof corners..a lot of people fitted the bonnet emblems to deVilles but they didn't have them as standard...and then of course many fitted them to panel vans etc ...the emblem style itself was the same as the Chevrolet caprice which used the fleur de lis as the basis...the WB caprice adopted a sort of cadillac style ornament...the WB is mounted on the front nose panel whereas the HJ-Z it is mounted on the actual bonnet...

was Exported as a Cadillac to a number of country's. I saw one in the middle east when i was based there with the ADF. Must say it was a surprise to see it there.
The HQ-HZ DeVills just had a badge in the nose cone ?

didn't know that ..I know the later model caprices were exported to the middle east and badged as chevrolets...some used as police cars...yes the deVilles had a badge on the front nose cone...it was a similar or same kind of design as the HQ and was "cadillac style"..it's interesting that GMH adopted for the higher spec Caprice an emblem from a lower spec US car and the deVille had the cadillac style..I'm thinking it may be a throw back to the HQ where the deVille was the top of the range...I note that with the HZ Caprice they dropped the caprice fleur de lis boot badge in the centre - so that only appeared on the HJ and HX..all very subtle changes to support a "different" model...

Do your home work you will find that Holden built caprices in HQ for overseas markets, one being South Africa it was badged as a Chevrolet.

Sorry didn't know this was a History lesson ?
What I said was -
The HJ Statesman Caprice was Exported as a Cadillac to a number of country's. I saw one in the middle east when i was based there with the ADF. Must say it was a surprise to see it there.
The HQ-HZ DeVills just had a badge in the nose cone ?
AND "dirdsme" said yes to confirm my question.(thank you sir for that)

YES YOUR Right, the HQ was marketed for overseas, I flagged down a HQ TAXI in Singapore and went around the main Island "Just to say, done it and ticket the bucket list", while serving in the ADF.and the HJ Holden was badge a "Mazda" with a Rotary Engine in Japan and I did see one in Singapore, (dont know WHY they made them)
BUT THE HQ Statesman had a Different Badge, IN QUESTION,
Even the HT-HG Monaro was exported and badge as a SS Chevrolet, The EH-HZ was exported and even earlier models,
I think AND "YES I COULD BE WRONG" but off the top of my head (while at work at the moment FIFO) the first Export went to NZ and was a FE Holden ?
The Question was about a badge, on a HJ-HZ, and was asked by ME
"the emblem is from a HJ-HZ Statesman isn't it "?
AND the answer was from again by "dirdsme" (thank you again)
yes that emblem was on the HJ-HZ caprice.

THERE was no mention about the HQ.......???????
As it Has a Different badge ???????????????
BUT THE HQ Statesman had a Different Badge, IN QUESTION,

SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK "Tim r"

Class Dismissed

P.S thanks for the links dirdsme, Great "History lesson link" lol

As I always say,
Stay Safe everyone

YES I have a 1975 HJ Premier and yes its a Premier and yes, the 253 died and had a heart transplant to a TPI 350 chev,
There is no way in HELL im going to put a Chev badge on my dear old Dads car, IT still has the 3 "Primer" badges and a V8 badge on the boot lid. Yes its a Holden But there are NO Holden badges on the car only on the ID plate in the Engine bay. The Holden Lion Logo are on the hub caps
So does this make my car a "Holden car " or a "Premier car" ?????
The answer is NO
Its MY CAR lol

I'd like to see a HQ Caprice ..Holden, Chevrolet...or other...indigenous or export...until I can see something, some evidence ...even flimsy...I'll go with what I know...later models yes..HQ or HQ equivalent/derivative - No.
One of the points I was making was how GMH reversed the hierachy with the local statesman and trim/luxury level...starting with the HQ they adopted the top of range as the deVille - also a type of cadillac and adopted a cadillac style badge...then in the HJ-WB GMH adopted the Caprice as being top of range and deVille being the lower spec. The name Caprice and the badge (fleur de Lis) was taken from the chevrolet - a poor cousin to the Cadillac...in the WB Holden kept the poor cousin name Caprice as their top of range flagship but adopted the cadillac style badge...If you mention to an American Caprice or deVille...they associate deVille with Cadillac (top luxury) and Caprice with Chevrolet (poor cousin)..in Australia it was opposite....the HQ Statesman did exist in South Africa as an AQ Chevrolet Constantia deVille and the HJ Statesman appeared in South Africa as an AJ Chevrolet Constantia Caprice...so HJ not HQ..and aligned to when Caprice appeared in Australia

wow thanks for the "history lesson" you've done your "home work" lol

on the subject of the HQ (for Tim r)
BUT question for dirdme,
Didn't the HQ have the DeVille as top of the range and than the Statesman "Custom" as the other ? Im sure ive read somewhere on this sight a few years ago they were a 6 seater 6 cyl ? in Australia ?
I was under the impression that all Statesman HQ-WB were badged "Cadillac" for export ??????
is it Dr Terry .. that wrote a book on Holdens ????

yes the deVille was the top spec in HQ Statesman and custom was the lower spec...the HQ statesman did have a variety of engines including 202 and a bench seat was also available..I'm not sure what the Statesman was exported as in those days..it was a chev in South Africa as was the kingswood and prem..they were chevs with different names.. my understanding was they were assembled in South Africa..very similar styling with cosmetic differences..My thinking is that Cadillac being the GM premier marque that they would tightly control that "brand" name and not allow some "colonial" manufacturer to use it......I am aware that later models were exported to middle east as Chevrolet Caprices

that does seem really unusual..being a HJ it must have been quite old when you saw it...be interesting to know the history...maybe someone put some cadillac badges on it..people do weird things like paint Ivan Milat on their car or boots with mould growing on them...and yes have owned a few Statesmans over the years! I've liked all the models although the VQ didn't do much for me..
