Another X2 four speed

I was talking to an old bloke about EH utes today and he told me of a one owner HR ute farmer friend owns.
His farmer friend has owned it from new and it has had a 186 X2 motor with the Opel four speed and bucket seats from new. He has known the farmer for many years and doesn't doubt that it is factory original. He said it definately doesn't have the two barrel stromberg on it. It has the X2 badges on the grille.
I don't doubt what the old bloke told me. He has a lifetime of mechanical experience including many years working in Holden.
I asked him if he could get the date code from the gearbox.
Maybe it's another one that isn't supposed to exist.

If its a Melbourne built ute then get the insert code, this is the only true identifier.

Wow another one. Sounds like they aren't that rare. As old mate makes out. Must have been the end of the run. My v8 was out of a vs ute and was full of goodies. No engine capacity cast on the side but full of Gm's finest.

There were NO HD holdens fitted with a 4 speed at the factory, stock, or as an option, the Opel was officially an option just before the 186S was introduced into the HR series in 1967...

Old news re option power steering in EH ex factory, EJ had power steering fitted in the dealer from a Holden factory kit.witch was also available for the EH as a dealer fitment. As for a 4 speed Opel option in HD not possible. I have Seen interior photos of what looks like a HD speacial with a floor change and bench seat.taken inside fishermens bend.

While I have no doubt that there are several X2 4-speed HRs around, as I have verified 2 myself, I have serious doubts over any GM-H built HD X2.

I would also doubt the existence of factory-fitted buckets seats in an HR ute. In those days you could not option bucket seats in Specials, Standards or commercials, as you could in HK onwards.

Also HRs didn't get a grille-mounted X2 badge. HR X2s had their badge on the front guards & on the boot (or tailgate).

yes DR Terry that is correct.
and when the HR "S" came out, the X2 badges were changed to the "S" badges in the same location.
I had a HR ute and it had X2 badges on it.
I have no idea if it was a real x2 at the time. I was 18 and it was fitted with a 4 speed that the owner did himself, he told me this and it was fitted with tipple su's and bucket seats and seat belts.
Sadly I sold it some years latter as I was in the ADF and being deported to "Desert Storm"
was the one car i miss the most. :-(
I use to work with an old gentleman, who drove a HR "S" but it was a 2 speed power-glide.
