Anyone know the way to put an indicator light on the front drivers side of a vx commodore? do you have to take the battery out?

Hi I am a dumbo when it comes to cars. My daughter is on her L's and is disappointed because her non-mechanical Dad won't take her driving over Easter because an indicator light is not working-the front drivers side. I thought it would be easy but there is no space. Do I disconnect the battery and have to put in the codes etc, or is there an easier way. Knowing me,if I start playing around, the car will probably require a tow. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dumbo

it depends on which indicator it is.. there are 2, one in the guard, and one next to the headlight.. tell ya about both.
in the guard, the light itself pops out, with a screwdriver (cover with a rag so not to scratch the paint) there is a little clip inside of the guard at the rear of the light, push the clip forward with the screwdriver at the same time pulling on the light next to the clip. it will then pop out and ya can change the globe, all ya have to do is slide the light back in forwards and then at the rear just push it in... done.

the one next to the headlight, it dpends on how small your hands are (i can do it without moving the battery) use your left hand because its at a better angle than your right, twist the globe holder that you can only just see top towards the engine, and pull it out enough so you can replace the globe, then in reverse put it back in... if your hands are too big just loosen the battery clampp and shift the battery slightly so you can get your hands in there.

hope it helped

Hi Buggadifno
Thanks Heaps for your concise advice-I've just got home from the flicks-billion dollar baby. The indicator light is the one next to the headlight. Is the battery damp the bracket that runs across the top of the batter? The site charitably called me a "Holden Fan" which of course, I am and always have been, but when it comes to tools, terminology, common sense and confidence then "dumbo" is more apt. Thanks again.

yes the battery clamp is the bracket going across the top of the battery. all you will need to loosen this is a 10 mm socket or spanner, and jobs done

Done. Thank you very much. Best wishes to you-your advice is so much appreciated by me and my daughter. Other motorists will also know when I am turning right in front of them.

Hi all. Hopefully i can get some advice on this one. I am trying to change the parking lights on the vx executive wagon i have. Reason being is, the rest of the bulbs are the blue type and the ones i am trying to change are the standard white. I want to get them all the same colour. When i take the cover of from the rear of the headlight get access to the bulb all it wants to do is keep spinning when i turn it. I can not tell if there is a certain way to get it out but any advice would be much appreciated thankyou.

I agree just move the battery (don't disconnect it)and you will be ok ...but you may have to grind off 1 of the lugs because the originals are not directly opposite each other ...thanks to modern engineering !
