Hi Warren, I dont know about any archives of EH alterations during production, however I do know there are a few changes that were made that are easy to spot. Initally EH gauges were made by AC and had the white AC lettering on the front, they later changed to VDO these guages have the VDO name and the date of manufacture stamped on the back.

Another change that happened was the introduction of the 5 bolt manual gearbox which was stronger than the previous 4 bolt gearbox, holden had a surplus of gearboxes and some 149 EH's received the EJ gearbox. 179 engines were only available with the hydramatic until 1964 when the stronger 5 bolt gearbox was introduced, this is written about elsewhere on the website.

Hope this helps.

I believe the S4 introduced the 5 bolt manual gearbox in August 1963 to all manual EH cars.
It also introduced the larger diameter tailshaft and the 12 gallon fuel tank. Unfortunately the 12 gallon tank was only available in the S4. Surely this would be a golden opportunity for Rare Spares to reproduce?
The S4 was also the first manual EH to have the larger 179 automatic sized radiator. The 149 had a smaller EJ sized radiator with a bolt in fill panel beside it.
The very early EH bonnets still had the EJ frame pressing. You can pick an early EH bonnet by the circular hole at the rear edge of the frame. it was for the EJ windscreen washer.

Old is good.

early manual eh's had the EJ gearbox as noted in the workshop manual and provides the engine number that the gearbox was updated at
also when buying a rebuild kit for the ej/eh they printed on the box suitable up to EH engine number ****** basically the gearbox got heavier bearings larger lay shaft

The change from the 4-bolt gearbox to the 5-bolt gearbox for EH 149s was at engine no. 81521. The clutch slave cyl changed at he same time.

All 179 manuals (incl. the S4) used this set-up.
