HR Headlight and ignition barrel removal difficulties

Hi guys,
I am having some real difficulty removing the headlight switch and the ignition barrel from my HR. I am looking at swapping the premier woodgrain finish to the standard silver dash plates and instrument cluster surround so need to remove both barrel and switch. I have looked at the instructions given in holdenpedia and that all seems straight forward but I am still struggling to remove them both.

Headlight switch: should be as easy as pressing in the button at the bottom of the assembly and removing the switch button and then nut, but I can not get the button to release the switch...

The ignition barrell: I have pressed a pin into the hole in the barrell when the key is turned onto accessories but nothing is going is really budging..

Has anyone had similar difficulties or could provide me with any helpful advice???

thanks

Sounds like you're doing everything correctly, bar the tongue movement. Can you feel the (light switch) button going in-out? And the same with ign switch? If so, they may need a good jiggle.
45+ years of stubborness maybe. Keep trying, you'll get it....

Try using a larger needle instead of a pin. When you're successfully pushing the brass pin in the ignition lock you will feel some resistance. Once you've mastered that, turn the barrel and key a bit more to the left and you should be able to pull them out. You need the key in the cylinder to replace the barrel afterwards.

I don't know about HR's but on KTG once you have the barrel assembly removed from the dashboard, you pull the headlight knob to the 'headlights on' position, then you stick your pinkie in the ignition lock hole and to the right is the spring loaded button on the side of the headlight switch. Push and hold that in and the headlight control shaft should be free to withdraw.
IIRC when you want to reinstall the headlight control shaft it simply pushes in without the need to depress the button.

While you've got the lock cylinder out it wouldn't hurt (it would be a good idea) to soak it in something suitable, (kero, etc? .. we have a locksmith on this forum) to get the gunge out of it. Then apply some graphite powder to it (not too much)

I just had the same problem with the light switch, but this was out of the car. It finally popped out when I had the little button pressed in and tilted the switch shaft down (or maybe up, I'm not sure which way it is when it's fitted to the car) With the shaft perfectly in line with the switch (as you would think would be the correct position for removing it), it wouldn't budge, even with some choice swearing.

"If your car has quarter vents, a diff at the back, and was available with wind-down windows, you may talk to me.
Otherwise I am not interested. Amen."

How do you remove the HR ignition from the dash without a key ?
