I've seen a few that have been a little wonky, but not that bad. Its seeing the individual stamp outlines on the H and 0 that looks a little odd to me. I have a hx myself, will check it out and let you know.

I have a 77 HX Sandman ute and the letters look very similar but are in a straighter line. My chassis number starts with AHX and is about 3500 numbers higher than yours, I would be interested to compare the ADR plates to see if the sedans had to meet different ADRs than the commercials as the BHX should mean that there was a change in ADRs. Both cars being Adelaide built.

The ADR may have changes but the my understanding was that the A or B in sequence meant the model year of the particular model type A = year 1 HX, B = year 2.
The number do look wobbly but much better than a HZ tonner I chopped up the numbers were too small and it was obvious they had cut and shut the chassis after a big prang. They had used HQ front rails so the HZ number was on a HQ frame (suspension mounts were a bit of a give away.)

No, it is a common misconception that the A B C etc at the beginning of the chassis number is for the year The A, B ,C etc is introduced at each ADR change in the life of a model, as the newest ADR is introduced into production the prefix letter is changed. I also stated that my Chassis number is higher than the one in the photo, mine is AHX34575A, both are Adelaide built but mine is a ute, as I have only had utes in HX and all had AHX in their chassis numbers I thought the difference may have been due to the commercials being exempt from some ADR change that the passenger cars had to incorporate. Going by your idea on the prefix my car should have a BHX prefix as it is a 6/77 build but it is a listed Sandman and questions would have been raised when I researched it.

NB looking at the pictures of both chassis numbers, even though I can't put the picture of mine up here, the H and the A stamps are very obviously the same tools used on both chassis.

I'd say that the vehicle has been involved in an accident at some stage of it's life and the rails had to be replaced the new chassis. The old chassis number would then be re stamped by an authorised person. Which would explain why the numbers appear to be a little skewed, it was always easier to re stamp the chassis before the in went into the vehicle, or the front clip was reattached.

Cheers guys. The compliance plates have the original pot rivets in and it looks legit. I think it may be an ex police car as there's tell tale signs there. I have the authenticity certificate as well that match the car numbers and I had an old Holden dealer look at the stamps and he thinks there authentic. I guess I'll never really know
