I always thought the same as long as you stick to green with green and red with red all was good

theres a new yellow one now as well i think just to confuse things

dont get caught out with the el cheapo "coolant" i bough tsome a fair while back and after it went brown in the car, i looked into it and discovered that coolant just meant water, and it had green dye in it. when you read the fine print on the label it offered nothing extra to plain water.

Look up Aussie desert coolers, they give a run down on coolants. They are not all the same. I have alloy heads and alloy radiator, so I have to run the red coolant as the other gear will damage your radiator and void your warranty.

Ive heard about the Gel thing as well, but i had a leak in a hose one day on my Stato, and it ran low and started to get hot, I was at a servo and they only had green stuff where as the car has red. i chucked it in as i only had 20 mins to get home it was that or wait for racq etc, and to be honest i hadnt heard about the gel thing then either. flushed it out at home when i fixed the hose and all seemed ok
couple of years later and havent had any dramas
