'81 VC 50th Anniversary Commodore

This is our 2nd '81 VC 50th Anniversary Commodore. We've now had it for about a year and are in the process of restoring her. They were built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the merge between General Motors and Holden Body Builders. At around the same time as these cars were being made, the 4 millionth Holden also rolled off the production line.

They were the first numbered limited edition run GMH released. There were only 300 cars produced, all came out of Adelaide. They were issued with a numbered plaque on the dashboard and commemorative decals on the front guards,a numbered medalion and a numbered bottle of Port. The cars were all made with the same specs - an 'L' body, 'SL' running gear and 'SL/E' trims and fittings. All came out in 'Contessa Gold'.

At this time, i have only managed to find one other owner of these cars. I have been in contact with another fellow who scrapped his due to rust. We did take her to the Geelong All Holden Day back in March where she won Best Original VB/VC/VH.

The car is in original , as acquired, condition in the attached pic except for the new rego plates and a new windscreen (the original one is in our garage and didn't pass a roadworthy when we registered it).

if anyone wants more info, please feel free to ask as we have the production broadcast sheets and all the original documentation for our beautiful old girl.

I brought a gold vc with plate on the dash with a number 18 off a work mate for $500 dollars 4years ago. It was in great nik apart from the worked 308 motor which I spend the next 6months and 4k trying to get to work. In the end I traded it in for a 2002 vx ss. But now reading up on it I'm really sad I got rid of it.. It was such a great car when it was running, they don't make me like they use too.

Hi there, I own one of these too. I would be most interested in the broadcast sheets. I inherited it from my now deceased Uncle who purchased the car in the late 80s from the then Ellers Holden Somerton Park (now Hamilton). Not sure the number but I do have the port and medallion. Any info you could sent to me at noincomelimit@outloo... would be great! Thanks!

Hi
I have sent you an email on your nominated email address so as to make contact regarding the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Commodores. I own one of these and am just one of a group of owners of these cars that are in contact with each other around Australia. There is quite a bit to tell you about these cars. I have done some in depth research into them and there is quite a bit of information on these cars but you need to look in the right places! There are about 15 of these cars that we are aware of out of the 300 made if we count yours, at this present time but we are always happy to find more. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello I have number 218, I'm from South Australia I bought it for $850.00 in 2003 just to buy a cheap car at the time because that's all I could afford at the time. then I bought a newer car a year later & its been sitting in the shed since.

I just purchased no 123 for $1500, all original and no rust. The son was selling it for his dad and didn't know what he had.
