On this motor just wanting to know what pollution gear l am going to need thanks it starts with a VT49 etc

it looks like 12L4 to me...so that would be 12th Nov 84...as VT would be a commodore engine...ps would not the pollution gear you need depend on the date of the car it's going into? eg a summary of SA rules as follows: https://www.sa.gov.a...

I think l just opened a can of worms.l am thinking off getting the HQ regoed with it the motor was running straight lpg in my HZ but running a quad four barrel carby now .
I might have to sell it an fix my 350 with the old numbers on it etc ,Has anyone gone threw the night mare off throwing a later model motor in a car in QLD lately as l am reading a lot off different things cheers

you should probably check with the State rego department or look for official info online...or move to SA - not too bad here...and as you can see from the link I fwd - if you are not increasing capacity beyond what the car came out with - for a HQ on petrol all you need is an operational PCV Valve and achieve 4.5% CO at idle....seems other States have tougher requirements...

MY Qld blue plate dates 10/04/2000
I run a TPI 350 chev and a TH700 and I live in Cairns NTH QLD
AS long as you run ALL the Pollination gear for that model engine for your blue plate .....YOU WILL PASS.
you must have a recite for your NEW engine mounts (i did just to be sure)
make sure you have near new exhaust and cat converters, the correct fuel lines with a return line and NOT rubber hose from the back shelf in your shed lol.
I tried to buy as meany NEW parts as i could so I could show them the resets when it went over the pits. The only thing I faild on was a 50 cent hose clamp that i had a fuel leak. Changed that in front of them as i had a spear in the tool box and that was it.
BUT that was in the year 2000, I have heard some horror story's, and ive heard some good ones.
My advice is to talk to an engineering expector like I did at first and let them know what your planing and they can guide you in the right direction, I did and im glade I did, saved me a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$

from what I can gather he is just putting a blue 84 VH Commodore 308 into a HQ...it should be real straight forward...unless he is putting it into a Belmont that had front drum brakes...then he would need to update the front brakes....

Here in Mexi... er victoria , we gotta run the pollution gear for the engine, so later the engine, the more crap you need. Using an earlier motor (think you allowed) would mean complying with the car's requirements.

think ya gotta run with what the motor had originaly, Ie my commodore motor in my FX has to run the commodore pollution gear
dont know that ya can put an earlier motor in a car.

you could put an earlier engine in but you would have to still comply with the emission requirements applicable to the actual car - that may or may not be a hassle...I had a 78 HZ and it needed an exchange engine...the reconditioned engine was from a HQ...but used the existing bolt on gear....I was living in ACT at the time and they were quite anal re annual gov checks and the like...I had to provide an exhaust gas certificate...they just looked under the bonnet and checked it had a cannister and hoses fitted and that was it...they just wanted evidence it meet the emission requirements...also if you run on LPG only it's a lot easier to meet the requirements than petrol....it's crazy we don't have unified laws...I think the answer is to take the lowest/slackest law in each state for various things and then make that the standard...we don't have rego checks here in SA but until recently our historic reg requirements and window tinting laws were more stringent than say NSW....

are a HOLE different thing in QLD. The panel shop i use to work at did ALL the tint for Holdens and Toyota up hear NEW and Used cars, front tint no greater then 10% but the rest of the car was fine like on some of the Toyota Prado's had dark on all the rear glass but only 10% on the front, Try telling a customer that SURE I can tint them all the same BUT its not leagel

well you blokes don't have daylight saving so you don't need as much tint..it's why your curtains don't fade as quick - ha ha..BTW isn't this Kinswood fella the same that admitted he was on the turps when posting 1 of 2000 Stato's with Opera windows the other day...!
