DON'T by an aftermarket booster if that is the culprit for your holdens brake issues! It may be a little cheaper but its not worth it. I did because i had to get my car going in a short timeframe. I'm still dealing with brake issues and cant wait to get my original Master cylinder refurbished. Crikey, the original unit worked fine for 46 years! This aftermarket crap has given me nothing but trouble. A refurbished unit should out last you Kevin.
Learn from my experience please everyone
all the best,
Alby

It sounds like the new Master Cylinder can't hold pressure.

The activation noise is normal.

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

with engine off apply the brake pedal several times...then hold pedal fully depressed and start engine...if the booster is working the pedal should go noticeably down..if it doesn't then your booster is suspect...

Cheer's Andrew ,just went and tried that and the pedal went down as you said. I'm thinking it's just been sooo long since I have driven her and modern brakes are way different .

yep see how you go - it may just be how they are and you comparing to a late model car...I've got a WB Statesman...the brakes are sound all round and it has a soft pedal as you describe and compared to my VF 5/10 but compared to my HR 10/10...so it is relative and we easily forget..if your foot goes right to the floor and you feel like you are not going to pull up then you need to investigate further...
