Woody those DOHC heads you have seen are after market jobbies by yella terra i believe, they are extremly pricey. HOLDEN never made a DOHC head for a grey motor. not even yella terra does. And mate for a car to break traction and smoke tyres at 50mph (90 odd k's) it would not only need a good 500HP at the wheels but a chassis that could handle that sort of power. The are some people around who have a clue as to what there talking about, obviously your not one of them.

Krogdahl heads were for a red motor. They were in Townsville in the 90's from memory. I was going to buy one but they were too pricey. I ended up buying an alloy yella terra 12 port head instead.

HFwho doubts what he wasn't there to see: from what you say, I believe you weren't around in the days of big Holden sixes and razor blade cross plys.
Would you believe that were big red sixes that used to brake the block in half?

Old is good.

i have a cross flow head off a grey motor, it probably looks like a twin cam head due to the size of it, but it is'nt and i've never heard of a twin cam head yet. As for a burnout at 50mph! i think you stated the obvious, that you saw black smoke (as it choked on fuel). If he expects it to do 10's, then im expecting Paris Hilton any minute to eat my arse, DO NOT beleive the [Naughty Pottyword] you've been told, just tell the wanker to pull his head in before he makes a fool of himself. A grey motor will go well if modified but no way could it go that well off Everest.

No insult to you but whoever this guy is he needs a flogging with the 'Reality Stick'

Waggott Engineering produced a few DOHC heads for the Grey Motor, they probably only made ten or so , the heads on the engine looked just like a Jag head, twelve ports, enclosed chain drive.

The heads were around, not sure on how many but they were very expensive, about 3000 pounds for the whole kit to convert, this was about three times what the car to put the head on would have cost.

There was a LOT of extremely clever hot-up bits available for Grey motors in the late 50's and 60's.

I think REPCO made a performance head for the grey that may have been DOHC (bugger leaving my book with this info in it in Perth). It certainly was made of alloy and was crossflow in design.

There was also a rotary "valved" grey head available that had no valves, just a rotating drum (for want of a better description) with ports (like a 2-stroke) to let the charge in and the exhaust out. I have heard reports that this head allowed the grey to rev to something like 6,000 or 7,000 RPM although a LOT of work would have been required to the crank to be able to rev that hard as the greys were a bit short on Big End bearings...

Sound's like you like to hear yourself (bignote) type insults than offer any real input go away & buy a ford.!!!!

The things that have been done with a grey would boggle your small demented little mind, anything from DOHC & cross flow heads to supercharged & mechanical injection has been tried on the old grey, just cause you no nothing dont mean it aint been done.....

Yes crossflow heads for grey motors do exist but are very rare and were made by Repco so to any grey motor enthusist they are like gold and if you've got one.To right person they a worth alot of money. As for DOHC heads they were featured in Streetmachine a number of years and are made by a bloke in north Queensland who orginally made them for speedway use ie big ports and large valve. They also suit the 250 crossflow cause the red 202 and 173 share the same bore centres as the Ford. How do I know this I read Streetmachine.

Hi Guys.

Yes, it was Waggot (in Sydney) who made the twin cam grey heads.

There was an FJ with one fitted & driving at the Shannons Eastern Creek display day last Sunday (28t August).

The Repco 'Cross Flow' head for the grey motors is more common but is still pushrod.

Dr Terry.
