HJ panelvan

Hi there. I have a HJ panelvan that has a busted chassis. I have found a ute chassis locally but before I start I was wondering what the legal procedure was.Do I install the chassis and then tell the transport department or do I see them before I start work? Is there paper work I have to get? I live in Queensland. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think you have to see a sert engineer first to make sure its ok (e.g roadworthy)
and he does the inspection and gives you the paper work, for transport department ?
Don't forget to let your insures know as well so they have a record of the chassy number

you just have to inform the qld reg of change of chassis they'll most likely want to see the car to verify the number
fairly simple proceedure no engineers reports needed
maybe check the replacement chassis number with the police to make sure its not stolen

it wont be a problem as long as the chassis and van are the same model but if you are using say a hx chassis under a hj body it may muddle up what the vehicle is regoed as(and this may be down to the inspector on the day).your biggest problem may be if you want to insure it a lot of insurance companies dont like multi numbered cars

Thank you blue fc. I will look into what model the chassis in town is. If its not a hj one I will try and find one else where. Thanks for the advice.

depending on how busted it is...and where it is busted..and how much work you wanted to do on the car...not sure of your situation but have you considered if it is feasible to repair..?
