G'day all, thought I'd give an update on the HD, ghe old 179 ain't has healthy as I first thought & it's time for an upgrade.
I've got a 202 to strip & rebuild with a mild cam, 161 head with some port work, X2 carbys & headers along with a blue dizzy a trimatic.
I'm hopeful of a little bit more kick than stock😎😎

The 179 is a tad tired, during two recent trips to Bilpin up the Bells it had used a litre of oil & I've be chasing a flat that started not long after I got it.
This damn flat spot has seen two carbys & two dizzys & it's still there. So it's time to up the cubes & get some performance in the old girl.
I've got David HQ308 giving this old novis a hand with the big block build.

Won't the 161 head just make it ping and have little performance increase if only using a mild cam?

I'm gonna get Clive from Clive Cam's in Melbourne to sort out the cam, once the head had been ported & service.
Also the electronic dizzy will be re-graphed to the grind, so that should help somewhat.

Nice Shane, keep us posted. Have you ever considered crossing over to the other side, i.e a manual? A Toyota 5 speed made a huge difference in pickup with my HQ.

im with 2HQueues , I had a HR ute with a 4speed, the young fellow that worked with me had a HT ute i think it was, and he had a Toyota supra 5speed behind his 186s and it made a BIG different.

I would most likely go the Toyota route if the HD was already a manual, but at this stage it'll be a trimatic.

It's easy to go from auto to manual, all you need is a manual pedal box which bolts straight in and a master cylinder and fluid line. And the gearbox and bits.
