Newbie- hZ v8 clutch question

Hi guys I've found this resource very handy over the years and since mysandman has pulled the plug I'm looking for a fountain of knowledge again!
I have an early hZ with the shocking Hx type cable and push type mechanism. It feels as though it's not getting enough throw as reverse grinds and so do the gears if you shift too quickly. 1st and reverse are the hardest to get. Clutch does not slip at all. I've adjusted push rod right out so there's no free play at all on fork with the hope for maximum throw. A mate has suggested the fingers on pressure plate are collapsed hence it can't throw enough to get clutch plate away from pressure plate. There's no throw out bearing noise.

I've tried a slightly shorter cable I had in the shed and it made no difference at all. Can anyone confirm its most likely fingers? Thanks

Thanks guys

I had one in a HZ tonner and I think I fitted a new cable, and also rebuilt the mechanism.
You are just not getting enough travel on the mechanism and if the fingers collapsed Im sure you would be hearing noise.
What can also happen is the fork bends.
You can also get adjustment on the fork pivot ball inside the bell housing.
