Please use, Holdenpaedia will get the first box on the left side. Post any suggestions.

Going by my books, it was only the VC Commodore that came with the "L" designation, as in Commodore L, and was low spec. The VB lower spec was just called Commodore, and the lower spec in VH and VK was the Commodore SL. So it would seem all the lower spec cars had the "K" designation. Mid spec cars in VB to VH had the "L" designation and high spec had "X" designation. Only the 3 letters were used. This is out of my GM parts books. Also, Pagewood was H5 thru H9.

Body identification plate lists at what location the car was assembled, eg Body No: 621423M, M designated Melbourne, or NZ for New Zealand, or whatever state in Aus.
My book doesn't list a Z1-Z9.

VB used the designations: 173, 202, 253 and 308.
VC, VH and VK used the designations: 1.9, 2.8, 3.3, 3.3EFI, 4.2, 4.9 and 5.0 litres.

In Body style, 19 is 6 window sedan and used from VK to VS and Statesman through to WK.

The serial/sequence number also uses the last number of the plant number.

Might be worth while looking at this book.

I do not think it covers New Zealand though.
