For the Holden Fan who was asking about a Holden Gemini PanelVan...
This is what hey look like mate.
They are basically a Station Wagon with the FibreGlass Side covers fitted where the Side Windows fit up in the Station Wagons.
If pickings are slim you could always lash out and buy yourself a nice Wagon then fit the Vans Side Covers up in place of the side glass, this can be benificial in that using the Wagon platform you have a 5 seater Van for when you are on the go with a few friends then drop the rear seat down, slip in a mattress and you can sleep in comfort when you go camping etc, the best of both worlds.
Or you could always go for the larger style Van like Areswipes, it comes complete with a stocked mini Bar in the rear, no need to take the lil chicky Babes to the local watering hole when you have all the drinks you need onboard is there? lol

The panelvan came out long before the TE shape. The side panels were not fibreglass but were part of the body. 2 door with a lift up boot lid. no back seats just front bucket seats.

Van was released at with the rest of the TD range in early '78. I was on a first year apprentice seminar conducted by GMH and our class saw a pilot TD wagon shell at Acaica Ridge. We were told "you didn't see that" We also got told off for looking at the about to be released UC Torana range ........Well the had them out on the lawn and we were young and courious. Time frame was March/ April '78
A year or so later I bought a TD van with a webber & 6 1/2 hotwires ( just enough to get some 'dish ' ) it went well enough and I took it to Frazer Island a few times.

Well mate I beg to differ.
I have personally removed the side panels from a TD Panel Van and fibreglassed up where bubble windows were fitted into the rear side.
The panel itself was made of fibreglass but was machine injected, the same way they made the LTD fronts in the '77 model Fords, not hand laid and it most definately IS NOT made from steel.
I think you will find the correct term is FRP - Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic...
I have also helped turn a Station Wagon into a Van by removing the side glass and riviting in brackets to screw the panel into place from the inside.
If it were to be a full rebuild and respray you could weld in the same fittings like that used on the Panel Van's body to hold the side panels in place.
If you look the Wagon was also a two door with a single lift up tailgate.
Is this merely coincidence or are you saying there was two totally different bodys used for the Station Wagon and the Van?
If you look a bit closer you will also notice the panels spot welded into the rear of the Panel Van's floor, which is easily removed to fit the Station Wagons rear seat.
But if someone wanted a 5 seater Panel Van, which could be the best of both worlds, then that is why I suggested fitting the 'removable' side panels from a Panel Van and refitting them into the Wagon body, albeit a few brackets will need to be fitted up to take the fibreglass panel from the Panel Van's body, but a damn side easier than removing the rear floor and fitting up the seat then getting it approved as a 5 seater which the Station Wagon is already complianced for, as long as the Wagon had left and right external mirrors there would be no problems running the solid sides instead of the side windows which can be a headache nowadays with their flimsy side latches they use to lock the side windows closed...
It was all just a suggestion and an example of what a Gemini Panel Van looked like, I didn't think there was a need to cover each and every model with their pro's and con's...

Looking into purchasing a gemini wagon or panel van preferably fixed up(so i don't have to do anything) for around the $4000-5000 mark. Just wondering if there's anyone out there who's selling one. Also what i should expect to get for that price??
thanks, Nev.

Mate you should pick up quiet a nice lil Gemini for that sort of money.
They aren't exactly what is classed as collectable so around 2grand should pull you up a nice original example.
But 4 to 5 grand, I would expect to buy one that has been decked out a lil with nice paint and decent mags as well.
But keep a very good eye out under the rear floor, especially around the petrol tanks for rust, if buying a wagon check the middle pillar in the side for fatigue cracks and also the latches on the side windows, these can be a pain to find if they're shot.
Another spot to have a close look at is the front floors and around the subframes where they curl back near the bottoms of the front guards.
Another spot where they rust and is very hard to notice, is where the front inner guards join to the firewall, especially under the brake booster.
Also eye up the rear tailgate, if it is twisted or doesn't line up with the body beware, these cars don't have a chassis and the subframes are minimal to say the least, so any hits up the bum can have a lasting effect on the body's alignment especially if the repairs have been shoddy to begin with.
The engines are pretty robust, in your price range you should be able to hook one with a twin cam 1800/2000 or maybe even a v6 Commodore donk if you look hard enough, but the original motors have issues with the single row timing chains, the buggers rattle like a diesel engine when they're on their way out.
If it has a noisy chain, any mechanic worth their salt can change one without having to remove the head, it could also be a barter point as well, but a RollMaster Double Row Timing chain is the wise replacement choice.
The earlier models use an electric fuel pump that runs from the alternator, throw a belt or if the alternator dies, so does the fuel pump, but that can be a good thing as these were aimed at women drivers, one side effect being if they threw a fan belt they could never cook the engine because the engine conks out as soon as the belt departs hehe
But these are great lil cars, my wife owned a wagon for many years while we built up her TF Gemini Sprint which we ended up showing with good results, check it out here if you are interested; Link to BADGirl

well i think u are wrong as the gemini came out with the TE serdans/ TE station wagons and the TE panel vans. Hoever as you said in the panel vans there was a lift up panel in the back of it but let me tell you that was where the spair tier whent so it would give you more room to put goods but your right some people uesed this space to put a rea seat from a sedan so it could be used as a 5 seater station wagon. The panel vans come with thin still sheet in the back at the side of them. The panel van was made as a work van in the first place. The panels was spot welded so that it was easy to cut out in order to put window/bubble windows in for the classick look.GMH also brought out a 4 door station wagon as well as the two door wagon. And I think you will find that GHM made the gemini with opishnal windows or still panels at the time of the customers buying the panel vans. I know this to be true as quite a fue of my friends where gemini fernatics in the 70s. I hope that the infor mation that I have giveing you is of some help come on people do some reserch on this subject to find out the trufe.

Ok Gemini first made the sedan coupe in the TX then TC may OF made the sandpiper in the TC. then the TD along came the van/wagon both the same body but with different finish for Wagon press out panels for the glass for the van a extra light panel add. Wagon had back seat that yes fold down van had a no back seat & a exta panal in the back to stop load from sliding forward. east removed & back seat put in. I did this many years ago. I would say if turning wagon into van if wanted but no one does extra panal that was in the back of the van would be hard to find. side glass can you double tint as darkest tint is almost black so double or a curtains

I own a TE Gemini PanelVan, and i have never seen another one. I almost thought that someone did a cut and shut on the front end until i came along this page. Thanks for clearing that up for me! Mine has small rear windows in the back on each side, but still has the panels......can anyone explain this to me? I cant wait to get my gemini mint, which surprises most pople considering im female. This has been my dream car since i was a kid!! They are awsome to drive (except for the blind spot....almost taken a few people out!) and great to sleep in! Cheers

I started out with a TE, a long time ago. I met guy who had the van version with the factory diesel engine. OK yes was as slow as hell but a great little work horse and dirt cheap to run. Now if it had a turbo on the diesel . . . .

I see a very nice purple example of a gemmi panel van cruising around Adelaide on my way to work every morning. Like the Holden fan above I also thought it was a one off job. Learn something new every day eh?

Brute force and ignorance applied scientifically

Got two at home. One with side windows, one without. The sides are deffinatly not steel. Have taken them off to make a ute for bathurst weekend, unless someone wants to make me a reasonable offer!!!Underneath the fibreglass/plastic? panels they are all steel, unless windows have been fitted. Then they have the inner panels cut to suit the windows, be it one or two. Genaerally they then have pinchweld fitted to the inside of the body panel to finish off the cut steel, as mine does. P.S has anyone converted a pvan to ute. If so, did it bend like a bannanna or what? Bear in mind, this is going to be a burnout car for about two hours! Thats it!!!

I had a TD and cut the sides out to fit windows. The sides were definitely steel not a shred of 'glass to be seen.
I quite like the Gem probably should have kept it up the back yard for 'ron'.
but everybody has shouldas.

SUZUKI - LOL

ISUZU is what you were told. Gemini's ALL came with a 1584cc Petrol engien (except the Diesles of course); but the Jackaroo 2.0L engine bolts straight in.

I have fitted side windows to a few and also covered the windows to make a Wagon look like a Van and every one I have seen from TD to TF were Fibreglass covers which fitted over the recessed steel sides, which unless they are cut out look much like the Wagon with the side glass sitting in with the covers removed instead of flush outside like the Vans...

As for the Diesel models, I raced a Diesel Sedan in my '82 TF SLX Sedan on my way home after picking it up brand new from the slimy low life John Syvia(?) Holden network in Moorooka, mine was a 1600cc 5Speed model and I thought I would eat him alive, over around 400metres he ended up 3 or 4 car lengths in front of me, don't underestimate them unless they are on their last legs...

Hi, there's a good TD gemini wagon on eBay that doesn't look too bad, but the driver's and passenger's windows have been smashed in. Besides that, it doesn't look too bad, but I was wondering how available are the windows and if so, for what cost? Cheers, Vincent.

i've own roughly 17 gemini's including vans / wagon's and sedans, the van and wagon are based on the same body. as stated before on the van the metal is left in where the windows go on the wagon. also the van had the extra panel added to the outside to cover the windows pressing. inside a panel was added to the floor behind the front seats to make the van floor ( only spot welded in ).the gemini never came out as a 4 door wagon. and the first van was in 1977 as a tc and than u had a td and te.
