173 engine ID

I was given a red 173 motor today. I think it might be from an LJ Torana.
Engine number: CD 428759
Head part no: 7438296
Date code; middle of head on manifold side: J2 0
Number at back of head on manifold side: 6 H
Can anyone confirm what it is?
Supposed to be a YT head but has single valve springs and ports look stock.
If it's just a stock head I'll probably just pass the whole motor on if anyone needsa 173 for an LJ resto.
It has the sump on it.
Has anyone else ever noticed how much deeper in the sh!t you seem to sink when your daughter's boyfriend turns unexpectedly up with that motor his neighbour said you could have when you aren't home and you haven't told your wife it was coming?

Once bought a 179hp motor from a bloke at work that had it sitting for years in his shed. He bought it from a swap meet 10 years prior. Spent thousands building a 235 stroker with alloy yt head plus Magee injection, ran it for maybe 5 years and one day had a knock on the door by the law. Turns out it was in an eh sedan that was stolen years ago. The owner came with the cops to inspect and confirmed my car wasn't his but the block was. I ended up having to pay him $100 for the block as that is what I payed for it. The guy at work got a visit too but you can't trace it from a swap meet 20 years later. Be careful, check the numbers.

Head date code looks like Sept 2 1970 & small chamber (6H).
Has the intake ports post been removed & had a tube fitted?

Also, if you look a the back of the head on the smooth machined area right where it mates to the block, there should be a YT date code. One of the 2 I have has 11 over 84 (Nov 1984).
I always ring the DoT to check the block's legit before spending a cent on machining. They'll want your details like name, licence #, DOB & address before releasing any info, then it's fingers crossed while they check & (hopefully) give you the OK. They'll come knockin if not.
good luck.

It's just a stock small chamber head.
The intake posts are stock.
It was supposed to have the YT head, big cam etc. Not to worry, the high compression head might come in handy one day.
I believe the 173 has the same stroke as a 179/186. Is this correct?
Thanks for the pics.
