Holden Closing

Its Ironic - the most expensive place for electricity in the world was the base for Australia's car manufacturers. Yes the robots used in the car manufacturing also need power to run.

The irony is that SA does have the worlds largest base load power source at Olympic Dam, which is good enough for us to export to countries which we now are forced to import our crappy cars from.

Good luck with your batteries!!

Price of electricity in SA is ridiculous. I believe the rest of the nation may be hot on our toes. Even with high electricity prices the price of the local product was not outrageous - yet Australians in their masses bought the imports ahead of the local product. There is just so much choice available now and for various reasons people have chosen something different - so the volumes are not there to be sustainable when all else considered. Tom Phillips the last GM of Mitsubishi was recently stating you need to be able to produce and sell 60,000 units of a particular car per annum to be viable..looking back over the years that was easily achievable in the hey days - but in 2013 27,000 sold...its a shame - the product is good in my opinion and its sad that Australia as a nation loses the capability...irrespective of costs there is a strategic benefit in any Island to be able to mass manufacture for self reliance especially in periods of conflict...during WW2 - the auto manufacturers turned their efforts to the war effort to sustain and support the nation...the overseas supply chain becomes unwilling or unable to supply when things go bad...leaves a nation very vulnerable...

If the federal and state governments had only bought Holden vehicles for their fleet maybe this may not have happened. What happened to buy Australian made? They should lead by example! Very sad.

totally agree mate, the Qld govt. 3 Premiers ago wanted to get all Chrysler 300C cars for State govt including cop cars??? As they had less emission levels than out own built Commodores??? She has since been moved on thank you much, but if all govt's had bought Aussie built cars maybe a different outcome?? They never ever lead by example and I do not think they aver will!!
