VT Brakes in th HZ.

Fitting VT brakes the my HZ ute today, and come into some trouble, i have just thrown some new brake pads in th vt calipers with new slotted rotors also, but they seem fairly tight. doesnt seem like there is much clearance with the new disc's and pads. is this normal? anyone else come across this before? With the wheel on there i can just spin it over by hand. without the wheel and just the disc on there i can just turn it but its tight.
there doesnt seem to be any misalinement issues there at all. it all bolted up nice but when i went to slip to calie over the disc it was tight. even with em on the groud, and trying to put the new calie with pads on the new disc its not very easy at all!! and is still tight.
i havent taken it for a spin but i can garentee that they will get hot quickly, until the wear in i guess...........
any thoughts and sugestions would be great!

I redone my WB brakes, new everything and it was all very tight like you say so I'd say its normal !.

ah ok well there ya go. just seems strange. ah wont take long for em to wear in with the slotted disc's i guess.

does it spin smoothly u should hear it rubbing but shouldn't be too tight

how was clearance with wheels?

ive been thinking about going hsv 4 pot front and 2 pot rears in my hz, it has the 1" master already as far as i know as it already has disc at the rear.

yeh they are tight as said. everything being new i might have to take em for a lap around the block then let em cool and take again and let cool etc etc. dunno.

i have 16"x8" so clearance is easy. need a min of 15". i have a complete set of drawings for the adaption hub, brake line length, caliper hole redrilling location etc etc, if ya interested. im going to a c4 corvette 1 1/8" master cyl. and am looking into vn rears disc's as the handbrake is better than the hz/wb ones.

On the VT brake subject...
How easy is a Hq to VT conversion???

Is it as easy as just changing the rotor, then the matching brake calipers & pads?

Any help would be great...

you need to get or make a adation hub, to suit the q axel and vt caliper with 1/2" studs with corect offset for the disc with a larger boss area for the disc to slide over and a smaller one for the q rim to sit on. there is enough slop in the vt disc holes to allow for the different pcd. if you want to use commie rims well its a bit diferent again. the calipers need to be modified also. holes plugging and redrilling. mill the bolting face a bit and grind a bit off one corner of the mounting bracket. a longer and different brake line to allow for the vt calie and yeh done....

as said before i have a complete set of drawings etc if you interested drop me a email as i am a fitter n turner so i made all the adaptions myself =).

everything went great! except for the tightness issue i have! =( which is not related to my work at all as it even is an issue with it all on the ground.

If you don't mind, could I also grab a copy of those plans? I would love to look at them and me HZ and see exactly how you mastered this. My email is w__a__d__e__y@hotmai... . Was thinking of upgrading the brakes later actually. You'd need engineers cert for this to be "roadworthy", would you not?

just sent email to all 3 of ya. as for roadworth and engineers cert, im told you dont need to as your not modifying the original hz etc caliper bolting bracket.

$100 for New VT Calipers (on ebay)
$130 for a pair of slotted VT Front Disc's (on ebay)
$100 for braded lines (from a brake shop)
$40 for brake pads (on ebay you get em cheaper)
$40 for material for making the hubs

is what it cost me =)

Hi Jason,
Any chance of getting the drawings off you as well as i am trying to suss out the mounting on the stub as well.
I machined up/down the original HQ-WB discs available for $0.00.There is enough material to machine to fit inside the VT rotor,and make up a boss to fit in the VT centre.I will need longer studs + stay with imperial thread (HJ GTS wheel nuts).
Your way is the better option as you have access to material and machinery.
