"All fossil-fuel vehicles will vanish in 8 years in twin β€˜death spiral’ for big oil and big autos, says study that’s shocking the industries"

But we create just a much greenhouse gas generating the power to charge these "green" vehicles and those vehicle would generate if the burned fossil fuels.
The only apparent environmental gain would be cleaner air in our densly vehicle populalted areas at the expence of more pollution where we create the electricity to run the vehicles.
Maybe we just burn all those fossil fuels the cars won't need to run the generators that will power them.
On a per driven mile basis, the greenhouse gas generated making the electricity for a Tesla Model S is a bad as a V8 Commodore.

In a few years time there shall be a massive increase in the number of electric cars as they become cheaper. When this happens, and the cost per km being cheaper in an electric car, used petrol cars will become cheaper as people will prefer to buy a second hand electric. So when you buy a new car the resale on a petrol car compared to electric will mean the best choice is electric.

Eventually a 5 year old Petrol car will be worth nothing and they shall rapidly vanish of the road through this natural attrition.

What shall happen next is "service stations" will be selling less petrol and more electricity, so they shall start to stop stocking petrol at all stations (the exact same thing happened with leaded petrol, about 14 years after the introduction of unleaded it was deemed uneconomical to supply leaded anymore due to the lack of sales). Eventually there shall be very few petrol stations.

It may even get to the point that you buy petrol in 20 litre containers rather than from a pump.

Even today over 25% of new cars sold are supposed to be bought by people who don't actually see or drive the car the buy until they go in to pick it up.
I guess to some people, buying a car is no more an occasion than buying a microwave oven.

When you buy a Tesla an option is a software update that changes the charge rate and range of the car.
When the evacuations were going on in Florida before the cyclone some customers rang Tesla to upgrade their cars so the drive further as they evacuated. Tesla decided to wirelessly upgrade all their customers' cars in Florida so they had the extra range.
The bit that worries me in all this is that if an electric car's range can be restricted by wirelessly changing the charge the batteries get, how much potential control can governments or enemies potentially have over people's movement in times of war or whenever they like simply by not letting their batteries charge?

I wonder why Tesla did not allow the extra range from the get go? Too much control, as you say by the governments etc I do not like it one bit. I visited a certain part of south Aussie a few weeks back and I (60)had to show photo ID to purchase bourbons at the bottle shop, he scanned my Qld licence and that is sent to the police?? He reckons so they know if I buy a heap and may be on-selling it to the locals?? Big brotehr then knew where I was etc etc

The extra range is a softwear update option new car purchasers can buy.
It's just a way for Tesla to get a bit more money from people who want to travel a bit further than just around town.
