possible export hr

hello i have a hr special sedan and it has a few odd things that i cant work out,its pretty much all original, but it has a ball joint front end with drum brakes, it has never had a heater fitted, not even the leavers in the cab, it has a factory white roof, but its the same colour as the rest of the car under the white, it has the premier chrome strip under the back window and the windscreen squirter motor sits on top of the wiper motor, it had some sort of decal on the tappet cover and ive never heard a red motor that sounds anything like it, it has a spacer plate between carb and manifold and a big hump on the exhaust manifold,

any help would be great thank you.

Did you have a photo of "some sort of decal"

and a photo of "spacer plate under carb"

The special has drum brakes, a premier chrome
strip under the back window and no heater fitted
as that was optional - so no leavers. It has a
white roof too and someone may have put a hotted
up ...... is it a 161 did you say?

Donno

I'm no export-expert..
Some of that list seem fairly normal? The motor sounds interesting though, might've been changed early in it's life? Yeah, like Donno, I'd be interested in pics..

sorry i was told that all Australian cars had heaters and disc brakes, seams funny but that somebody would opt for a prem strip but no heater, And ive been playing with these engines for 30 years and i think ive heard just about every cam exhaust combo there is, i cant put my finger on it, i think its a stock cam, i think its the original engine, but anyway try this link for pics.

The tappet cover has a dint in it so the sound you are hearing is most likely the baffle on the inside of the tappet cover hitting a tappet or two. The plate under the carby is a vacuum outlet for the drum brake booster or some other thing that uses vacuum to operate it. Did you not notice that the plate has a hose connected. All other pics of the car look normal to me as I had 3 or 4 HR's, a couple of HD's, EH's, FB's EK's an HG Monaro, VL, VX. Just a few Holdens. I also worked in a Holden dealership in the late 70's early 80's whilst driving a Mayan Gold with a White roof HR Special Sedan.

Could be running an aluminium timing gear, that makes them sound odd.

"If your car has quarter vents, a diff at the back, and was available with wind-down windows, you may talk to me.
Otherwise I am not interested. Amen."

its the note out the exhaust i was talking about, and im 90% sure the engine has not been touched.

The trim under rear window is normal. I'll say all Specials and Prems had this trim. If your car didn't have this trim, it would be a Standard HR which these days are a lot more rarer than Specials and Prems. The trim that separates the roof and body colour is normal. No heater is normal. Not every HR had them. Not every car had disc brakes, it was an option on HD/HRs, and not all Premiers had discs. I've had a few HRs with that wiper motor, also other types too. I think they sourced them from different companies. That carbie spacer thing is apparently a PCV inlet/outlet.
I hope this helps, and I'm happy to be corrected, I'm nowhere near an expert.
Looks like a nice HR, good luck with it..

(I just re-read what I typed, it read like I was stating fact after fact. I didn't mean it to read like that. That's just what I've noticed over the years, hopefully others will come along and confirm or disagree with my thoughts ツ )
