How much oil does a V6 commy motor hold?

as title says, am curious, have modded the sump to fit a series 1 V6 into my FX, put 5 lts of oil into it and fired it up, but with the full 5lt of oil its only showing halfway between the add and full marks... have i got the dipstick position wrong or does it hold more oil?

I set it up when sump was off, so that the full mark on the dip stick was about 1/4 inch below the crank at its lowest point of travel

cheers

When doing a oil + filter on the buick V6, i find it takes about 4.6 -4.8 litres, and the Ecotech takes 4.8, but will easily take spot on 5 litres and just be over the fill mark.

If you have modified the sump then you are going to have to work this out for yourself. Remember that the difference between the bottom mark and the full mark on a dipstick is 1 litre. So if yours is half way you need another 1/2 litre to bring it up to full. This shouldn't raise the level in the sump much at all. It sounds like you got your full mark set up spot on.

In addition to any sump problem you may have ...

after a start the correct oil level can only be obtained after a hot run. You then let the engine stand for at least 10 mins.

The trouble is that cold thick oil will remain in the rockers themselves and other parts of the engine unless you get the engine to full operating temperature then allow 10 mins for the thinned oil to drain back into the sump.

My Commodore has water (or beer?) in the sump oil so it was nobbled and wouldn't go past 90km's an hour or the driver had it stuck in second gear for 110km's?
