Tub to tray

Hi all. I've got an old WB ute which I'm seriously considering cutting the tub off of and whacking a tray on the back. This is mainly due to all the rust being in the tub. It's been hit in the back corner too and had a bodge repair job. I'm not interested in turning it into a tonner as such. Just want to put the tray on the back. I know some guys on here would have done something similar, so I'm after some pointers. Thanks in advance. Tonners aren't cheap here in tassie so selling the ute and buying a tonner isn't really an option for me

Not all that hard to fit if you are handy.
Look at any tray on any vehicle and get the idea how they are fitted.
There are braces go across the chassis rails and these bolt to the rails, however, the utes are shorter in the wheel base than the tonners so be careful you don't try to use a 2.4 metre tray as it will hang over the rear quite a lot.
You will also have a bit of paneling across the rear of the body.
Probably have to get it plated/engineered as the compliance plate will be coupe utility I believe.

Thanks mate. Yea i figured I'd get a tray made up or something and weld the two supports on the chassis just behind the cab. I reckon I'd like to put a whole new panel in the back of the cab where the window sits, mainly cos that little shelf under the window likes to rust out too. Does anyone have pictures of where to cut the body? Or is that something i could just put my mind to? Cheers

You might want to rethink that.
I don't believe it is legal to weld to the chassis rails.
As I said, check how other tray backs are done.
Pretty sure they are U bolted, but been a long time since I looked.

Oh yea? Best not to do that then hey. I've been trying to find pictures of tub to tray conversions but I've come up with nothing so far. Cheers mate
