Older Holden Poverty Packs

interested in views/opinions on desirability/value of older holden basic models such as Standards and Belmonts vs the more popular survivors and restored versions such as specials, Kingswoods and premiers? The latter had more features hence popularity but the former were produced in lower numbers and less have survived - sedans rather than commercials...so does a lower volume lower surviving very basic model have interest re desirability?

I had the chance to buy a HK belmont sedan years ago. The rarity appealed to me. Personally, if its a good, straight solid car with no major issues mechanically or with rust, Its desirable every day of the week. These days i think belmonts would command a similar price to the equivalent condition kingswood. I'd agree that a prem should command more $$ though.
Just my opinion though.

i think as mentioned, in the long run there will be less belmonts and standards survive over equivalent model premiers, specials and kingswoods.

whether that in itself makes a vehicle more valuable is debatable though. im thinking it will make no difference at all, like al above says, a belmont or standard in the same nick will likely command the same $$ as a kingswood or special.

Yes. I'd much rather a poverty pack than the others.

These days I think the tide is turning whereby good example of a povo pack is just as desirable as the blinged up variant in my opinion, though I'm with Timbo, I like the basics for that reason (not many people wanting them). That's why I bought a 100% original HQ Commercial One Tonner, full big rounded bumper, original tray. Sorry that I sold it and I'm now looking for another.
similar thing with Fords, a good GS(especially a "K" code) is getting as desirable as the GT, and probably moreso than the many GT replicas.

A belmont or Standard really draws my attention- and the Belmont/Kingswood is the car that most authentically represents the era since that's what most people had.

Yeah, I kinda agree Flash Jack. The Monaros are nice, I know, but a nice Kingswood or Belmont is more what I like to see..

I had the HR Stranded ute, and loved it to bits, the usual add one as a young fella 4speed,tripples,mags.
My old man GAVE me my HJ Prem for my 21st,THAT he brought brand new, and I've tried to leave it stock, well on the outside anyway ha ha.
The amount of people that wanted me to TURN it into another GTS Monaro was out standing.
I'm with you surfman, give me a good old Belmont or Kingswood any day, and just watch how Meany people walk up to them
(after all The show was called Kingswood Country)
These are the cars that have stood the test of changing times and survived, and we had our fond memories and our childhood in.
THEY will always bring a smile to the face of someone.
And in this day and age that's the only thing that's free.
Thank you to all the guys and girls that have "tried" to keep there cars original

At this point in time your higher market cars are more desirable as there are people who have a attachment to them through family members or their own personal reasons, this will help keep prices high what will be interesting is 50 years from now, when the people with that attachment are gone and who will pay what or will everyone looses interest in them and they become less valuable with only the rare finding there way into collections and museums.

Beatings will continue until moral improves

In 50 years I doubt that any emission/safety laws will allow old gas guzzler survivors on the roads anyway , they hardly turn a head nowadays ( unless you have a straight thru pipe set ! )so can't foresee any interest at all in the future.
