HR picnic radio fitment

Hi everyone.

Does someone know the correct fitting position for the Air Chief picnic radio and cradle, specifically for HD HR models..?

I've added a picture of this radio in the cradle.

It looks like it should go under dash, but if it was made specifically for the HD HR, then I thought it would have had a special or more blending fitment.

Does anyone have a copy of the original fitting or brochure that might explain..?

Thanks people.

Picnic radios went under the dash and were removable so they could be used at a picnic.
Of course, if the radio in question was small enough, you could cut and shut the radio panel to accommodate the radio then bracket it under the dash as necessary, but most picnic radios I remember were larger than the radio panel.

In the EH they sat in the dash as shown here http://www.uniquecar... and here http://oldholden.com... You need to find a NASCO advert or catalogue for the HD. But perhaps the picnic radio pre dates the H series and was not meant for it.

The Ferris12.Jpg brought back memories; one of my first jobs in 1968 was with TEDCO as a warehouse clerk (got to ride around on one of those pushbikes with the large basket on the front collecting spare parts from Hoover and others and collecting returned small Hoover goods (mostly Irons and Vacuum Cleaners the washer were a bit too heavy and bulky for the bike) from Vox Adeons for repair. This was the age of twin tub Hoovers but also had the revolutionary programmable Keymatic washer that used a 4 sided plastic "key" to set the programmable washer and spin dryer cycles. TEDCO were in the building Murray Street where the Scout shop is now. This place http://www.mingor.ne... Just up the street from the old George Hotel until the tore it down to build the freeway. As well as Ferris they sold parts and did repairs for Hoover and Weston Car Radios (Two Ways). There was also a Mallard Radio Valve outlet that shared the premises and front counter. I used to think, like many I suspect, that TEDCO meant it was Ted's company but it was actually an acronym for Television and Electrical Distributing Company. Anyway thanks for the memories.
