Celica gear box Fitted to a HG

Hi,
Have just brought a HG panel van with a celica steel case gearbox, but on close examination have found that the floor strengthening support has been cut away to fit it.
I have chased down a new support frame and gear box hump to weld in and replace the original.

As I would still like to use a Celica box and found that there a number of gear lever exit positions from the gear box.

Is there a Celia gear box with the gear lever far enough forward that I do not have to cut the frame again or is there a way of modifying the frame to accept mine or both.

its fairly common to cut/modify the rib in the trans tunnel tofit a celica box, there is of course nice and correct ways to do it and theres the bodgy ways
the most common correct way that I know of is to shape a piece of 8mm x50mm flat bar to the shape of the tunnel and weld it in place of the rib, with the cut off floor section ends being covered by and welded to the flat bar also

As above is the accepted way.
Also, the floor must be double skinned around the gearshift opening.
Dellow Automotive in Sydney would be the ones to talk to about different position shifter housings, but the maximum they would change the shifter position is only 50mm or so, so I really don't think they would clear you new floor member anyway.
Cutting the floor member isn't a problem if the tunnel is reinforced and the remaining floor member boxed. The bolt-in gearbox crossmember is actually referred to as a body brace in early Holden (EJ/EH) manuals so your gearbox crossmember will give the body all the bracing it needs.
