Always fit Nippon Denso to my road & race engines.
Used to work in a w/shop that used Champion Gold, these were quite a good plug also, would use them if couldn't get N/Denso's.
Some years ago Motorcraft made good plugs, used them in my first race car....even got an old set of Motorcraft Methanol plugs here......somewhere!!!

Wanted NGKs for my car but the ones that where recommended where so big and fat they didn't fit in the cylinder head wtf???? So I had to settle for Bosche Supers which I don't like and straight out of the pack all of the tops had to be tightened.. I am a fussy person though and change my plugs every 5000ks along with my oil and filter so I would like to hear what other plugs are great. Might try Champion next

THE ONE that someone recomended to you were NOT correct and not the right ones for your car ... the correct NGK ONES FOR YOUR HZ 253 ARE -BP5FS or BP6FS or even BP7FS.

or you can use..

champion gold - V12YX OR A V7YX IF YOUR RUNNING ON GAS AND MOTOR NOT WORN.

NIPPON DENSO - T16P-U OR T20P-U for the gas..

when running on gas better to use a colder plug..
IF your car is tuned properly changing your plugs every 5,000 k is waste of time and money , it will not make the motor last longer or go better by doing it every 5,000km.. every 20,000km to 25,000km is fine , if the motor getting on and begining to use oil then switch to a next hotter plug ..

The NGK I looked up in the book, they where too big, Super Cheap guy looked it up on the computer it was the right one.. I have written down the ones you have given me though.

As for a colder plug, I was told by my LPG dude that it wasn't necessary for my vehicle and all it will do is cause hard starting when the car is cold.

Motor as far as I know is in good condition, doesn't burn oil or smoke and plugs come out looking healthy.

Have you got any tips for the last spark plug against the firewall on the passenger side? Always causes me problems :(

Once again thank you Wombat for your help. Greatly appreciated

THE spark plug against the firewall , is the problem its hard to remove or its fouling up or something or miss firing on that cylinder.. ???

if its hard to remove use a 3/8 drive 5/8 socket maybe fitted with a universal joint on it so you can get into it better....

if the plugs you were trying to fit were not the 5/8 socket with the tapper seat they were not the right ones for the motor..

as for colder plugs they don't make it harder to start at all but if the motor is old and burns a bit of oil then yes they are not recommended then , as they can foul up ..if your car is not running hot or the plugs show no sign that they are running hot , then thats fine to leave the std plugs there ..

"as for colder plugs they don't make it harder to start at all"

That's right. When you are cranking the motor the plug is going to be at the same temp as the head, no matter what the heat range. When it is actually running, different story of course.

Plugs are most easily removed from cast iron heads while the engine is hot.

Something about Titanium? Plugs that are supposed to last 100,000kms.

Anyone heard of such??

I'm pretty sure that useless physics lesson taught me something and i think its Uranium 235 used in a nuclear reactor. Haha that class really was a waste of time.

Copper NGK are fine if you don't have the money for Iridiums. Iridiums have 100,000k life span and looking at around $120 a set X6. Coppers 10,000 at $24 a set X6

wombats advice is good.

personally i use and recommend ngk for street and racing, and also have recently had success with splitfires for racing. these are not cheap though at approx $14 each.

nippondenso are good and i would use these also if ngk not available.

i dont like champions, as i dont think they last as long and also ive witnessed one break off in a head leaving just the thread in the head. the hex snapped clean off the thread. this was a mechanic changing plugs in his own car, so you cant put that down to being overtightened by a backyarder either...

in my experience the 2, 3 and 4 electrode plugs are a ****, the average person assumes that he will get 2 3 or 4 sparks each fire (and the pictures on the packet often are drawn like this!) when in reality spark only jumps to the easiest path each time.

platinum iridium etc are all expensive, and given easy enough access to change them, i would prefer to change a cheaper plug more often. iridium plugs give nothing extra to an ngk $3 race plug on the dyno either...

[Admin Edit] Ben, that word is not acceptable here.

The best investment, after the gutsiest ignition there is, would be to buy single electrode plugs with the widest and thickest electrodes possible.

One can spend a fortune on precious metal plugs but they are not value for money unless the plug gap persists in direct proportion to the cost of the gap or better.
(4 times the cost of an ordinary plug, 4 times the persistence of the maximum gap or better).

alot of time those special plugs Titanium.. Platinum. Irridium, are only used in the cylinders that are hard or impossible to get too with out removing half the injector system or that , the rest of the plugs in the motor are the normal everyday $3.00 plugs , mitsubishi , some vectras , astras and others are all like this ..
