Need Help with bucket seats

Just a quick qeury for any hr owners or anyone that can help. i just bought hr premier bucket seats to fit in where i had my front bench. my question is this, do i need any extra bracing underneath the side of the floorpan where i have to drill the holes in to get a mod plate or can i bolt straight through the hole which i drilled. any help would be appreciated

I'm not sure on the dimensions, but I do believe you'll need a steel plate a fair bit larger than the hole for the bolt. This is so the bolt can't rip through the hole easily if you ever were to have a mishap.

Someone else on here may be more helpfull with sizes and thicknesses, but you'll need to find an engineer to get yourself a mod plate anyway. So I would suggest you find an engineer, and ask him to specify the dimensions to make sure you get it right first time round.

Cheers
Bruno

P.S. I'm not sure if the HR's had the holes already there from factory, but I'm assuming there not, since you said you have to drill holes.

Should bolt straight in.I have a HR wagon that I fitted buckets to...all I had to do was clean some of the tar out of the centre holes, whacked em' straight in.

I think Q-ball that your wagon may have originally had buckets or been modified at one time to take them as a bench seat front HR only has 8 holes (4 on each side) same as each bucket seat, meaning 8 holes where a bucket seat HR has 16, so he'll need to drill them and reinforce them. This is my understanding anyway but if you're adamant that the holes are still there I can check the wifes car tomorrow to confirm one way or the other as it is unmodified in that respect.

You never know Q-ball, maybe yours is one where they prepared it at the factory for buckets then decided to put a bench in to make up numbers or something, just because they weren't supposed to have the extra holes doesn't mean they all didn't, we all know Holden cut corners and did weird things when it suited them!

in my experiance holden done alot of wierd things an example is in the VK's they all had the holes for the wiring for the elect windows central locking and power windows on the inner panel (double skin) just not on the outside HOWEVER if you look close there will be a dimple.

same thing i noticed with a friends WB tonner no holes for heater pipes the type that are with the aircon core but the dimples are there in the firewall for the holes.

Yeah I remember with my HR, we had to put in some extra holes in the tunnel. The HR Special didn't come with holes there or plates. Q-ball, sounds like someone had done it before on yours.

I haven't got the propper plates, just some bits of steel with holes drilled in them, and regular nuts and bolts. Makes it a 2 person job though whenever you're trying to turn the bolts, so I will have to fix this during the rebuild.

I'm in Qld. When I fitted VN commy seats in my HX ute the engineer required 70mm dia or 70x70mm square 2mm thick plates fitted to the underside of the floorpan.

The required size and thickness SHOULD be listed in the Modifications Section of your State's Rego website.

I'm 99% sure it is listed on the WA one (DPI.wa.gov.au).
