It is much more likely to be an extension housing seal leaking than a tailshaft yoke.....If the yoke has a worn spot from where its been rubbing then just smooth this out with emery paper and replace the extension housing seal. She'll be apples mate. :D
i had the same problem with my torana.got a flat welch plug (dont know what size) from a speed shop.fitted it in the ran silastic around the edge-no more leak.

Please use, Holdenpaedia will get the first box on the left side. Post any suggestions.
While we are on the subject of tailshafts, and T has one from a UC handy, I was thinking it would be a good idea to build up a data base of the lengths of various tailshafts. Would make it easy to find an off-the-shelf item that might be suitable for a gearbox change, etc.
I have only needed to get one tailshaft shortened, all the other gearbox/engine/diff swap jobs have used tailshafts straight from the wreckers. But it means hunting through piles of tailshafts with a tape measure.
I have a 6 cyl HZ sedan and a 6 cyl HT tailshaft in the shed I can measure to make a start.

Oil leaking from yoke
Red Baron,
I have had more cases of oil leaking from the welsh plug in the yoke than I have from the rear seal.
Brett.
Thanks
Thanks for your replies Gents. It's definitely the yoke welch plug.
How have you fixed it Brett? What size welch plug do you use and where
did you get it?

I have always fixed them the lazy way, with another yoke.

Many Thanks ...
... for the info Brett and L34.
It seems that the forward and backward motion of the yoke in the gearbox creates pressure/vacuum inside the yoke that promotes the leak.
The oil is emerging from the edge between the welch plug nd the yoke.

Thanks Snow
I bought a good second hand tailshaft for a fair price today which
will solve the quick changeover problem.
I'd appreciate it if you could get details of the yoke you have
and if you could get a shot too that wold be ideal.
slrV8torana brazes them up too. I wish I had my old oxy set, but where
live it's out of the question.
