RWC TIME :)

Hi all,

Well its almost time to get the VB on the road. I'm taking it to a mechanic tomorow to get the front end and brakes looked at and then hes going to look over it for a roadworthy.

Just wondering if I NEED to have a spare tyre ad a jack in there to pass?

Some people have told me you do and others have said you dont need it but if you do have it it needs to have enough tread and jack must work.

If I do need them, will a retread with enough tread pass? and does it have to be the stock jack or can i just grab one out of my dads ute?

Easy repair, or not?

Hi All,
I recently had a major blow-out on a round-about, causing a rear wheel to heavily clout a kerb. The diff housing shifted about 40-50mm back along the leaf pack. Lining this up again was easy of course, but therein lays the bigger problem…
Isn’t there a bolt/pin/rod that goes through the middle of each the leaf springs, holding them together?
If so, does one end of bolt locate in a hole in face of the spring mount under the diff housing? If I can shift the leaf pack back and forth, I must have broken this bolt.
Is it just a simple bolt replacement, or does it need to be pushed in with serious mechanical pressure?

Oil Leak Dripping from Converter Inspection Cover

Hi everyone

I noticed a drip of oil underneath my 253 and trimatic last night. It's a drop from the torque converter inspection cover and is engine oil colour - not tranny oil red.

I figure its either a leaking sump gasket or rear main seal on crankshaft - would this be correct. Anywhere else it could come from to be dripping off that location. Really hope its just a sump gasket, as I'm thinking a rear main oil seal will be a b**** to replace.

Any thoughts or help appreciated.

Sloppy(ier?) K-T-G steering?

Mornin’.
I posted about this yonks & yonks ago, but I think Dusty/’Puter/TROLL was the only respondent. Apart from sharing his success with an HR, I can’t exactly recall if he had the info I’m seeking for an HK.
Anyway, the steering box location on the chassis rail (end of Y-frame?) of a HK-T-G is understandably a bit agricultural - and flimsy – so the ‘box flexes about under load.
Ball joints, idler support bracket, idler and Pitman arms, bushes, anti-roll bar, tie rod ends, drag link and tyres are all good, or brand new. I don’t really want to spend more on replacing the worn ‘box as well, if the loose box mount fails to give me satisfaction when I’m driving hard. (errr, ahem!)
