hey could some one tell me how to tell what sort of diff i have? the person i gought it off said it was a v8 diff but i dunno.

Fuel Leakage

Hi, Ive got a HG Kingswood with twin fuel fillers. Theres one on each side and they both feed the same tank, now heres the problem, fuel blows back through each filler cap (their locking caps) and it will do it randomly, it may go for a few days with out doing it, and ill come out in the morning to go to work and its been leaking of its own accord. Any ideas on what i can do to prevent the leakage? I think its the fuel caps more than anything, but have i cant get my hands on a pair of the original screw style fuel caps to find out.

sandman resto

Woo Hoo!!! Thanks Rusty for supplying that sandman link, with your help i am now a proud and satisfied sandman owner.... I had my doubts at first because alot of things seemed dodgy about my car although it was sold to me as a sandy. Things like the bodgy brown paint underneath the red paint job, not to mention the bloody windows in the side... And to think i was almost gonna sell it for $2-3000..

Now that i know its genuine its going in the guarage till i have some $$$ to restore her.. Which leads me to my next post.... Im wanting to do a full ground up resto, mostly back to stock specs, yet am having a few probs deciding on some mods- a) if they can be done and b) how much its gonna cost me.

308 CONVERSIONS

Heya ppl just wantd 2 know ppls thoughts and advice, i have a 202 weekend car big cam, etc. But wat i actually wanted 2 ask about was my daily driver, its a 1974 450 se merc (d better injected 1s) wat i was thinkin of doin was dropin in a holden 308 straight from d wreckers n then workin it later on. Does any1 know of ppl who have done dis sought of conversion? or can offer n e advice? it will be injected wit either a turbo 700 or supra 5sp standard diff. also can any1 suggest n e other possible motors, i can go up to 502ci, with out an engineers certificate.any help much appretiated, im in d eastern sydney area p.s.

sandman id help

hi all im new so gday to everyone...wicked site!!!
just wondering if anyone had the sandman id info off the sandman owners site.. i have a hx van and am tossing up if i should sell it or not... As far as im aware its a sandman but i cant get onto the owners site for some reason it seems to be down... if anyone could offer any info would be great...

My van does have full headroof lining, 308, p/steer, a/c m21, and the chasis no is 8wM(orN)70 which from memory on the site is what the sandys had. but there was other bits of info as well.. im particually after interior codes and colors if anyone has them

Old grey for sale

For sale:

Stock 138 grey motor out of my EJ, complete fan to tailshaft - I know it runs but I'm not sure of the overall condition of the motor. Assuming it's the original motor its done 89,000 miles... which for a 40 y.o car isn't bad.

I'm advertising it here first as someone may want it for their "original" type project car.

the quest...

Something has to be done. I've got a stock 2bbl blue 253 on LPG, and it struggles up hills and feels like its breathing through a drinking straw. I need about 20-30 extra horsies to be satisfied, i'd like more though. I've decided to stick with the HQ I have, though, cos its a great car.

The decision i'm debating at the moment is to
a) spend a solid grand or more on the 253.
b) rip it out and put in a warm 308, maybe turn it into a 355 later.
c) since i'm rippin out the 253 stick in a mild 350chev now.

I'm not sure which would be the most satisfying longterm option, cos a lot of people have told me that the 253 has very limited potential. Would a 308 need to be engineered to register the car, If so would it be less hassle than a 350 chev?

can anyone help. im after wire diag for vn v8 for a motor conversion into a hz sandman ute! (sick of spendin money. hoping i can find it on net for free!!)

which diff

hi fella's, after hearing a fair bit about crappy diff's on this site i decided i need to know what kind would be in my hz ute. its stock as a rock so do i need to get any numbers of it to find out or what?

VH Extractors/Exhaust

Im just wondering what do extractors do exactly? Would they make my VH use less fuel and give more performance? :) and also what kind of exhaust would suit my car for that deeper, tougher sound.

Rear sway bar on HZ Ute

Hi all,

I'm just in the process of getting my V8 HZ ute's suspension fixed up, and was asked whether I want a rear swaybar fitted. None of the other utes I've owned have had one, so my question is are they worthwile on a ute, or are they a waste of time?

solex, don't f##k with me now

hi all,
just had a disturbing thought. If i have a set of solex lock keys could i use them on someone elses car which had also a set fitted or vise/versa. Coz they all look the same to me! [Naughty Pottyword], the only reason i got a set was because commodore keys can unlock almost every other pre-vn commodore!

Condensation in engine

Hi all, need some advice.

Ive noticed a creamy consistency to the oil in the top of the engine that im assuming is water mixing with oil. Im losing a decent amount of water from the radiator (no obvious leaks) so im assuming i have a head gasket problem. Is this the likely problem or could there be other causes? If it is the head gasket what damage ($) should i be expecting to get it replaced.

cleaning fuel blockage in secondary jets ?

hey guys, i have a severe flat spot when i floor my car. i am guessing that there isnt enough fuel getting into the carby when i boot it and the secondaries open up, now i run gas, and i never really floor it, but when i do on petrol just dies in the ass ... revs slowly drop instead of going sky high ...
is there any easy way to check if its dirty, and to clean the secondaries ?

VK EFI 202 Supercharging

hey everyone i have seen the supercharger kits from the rod shop and they only cater carby 202'z plus they are in melb. which kinda sux for me being in sydney. i heard that it is possible to use a toyota supercharger or if anybody knows a place that superchargers a 202 EFI in sydney or a place to buy one could you please let me know

Fuel Crisis

I have been thinking lately about the current situation regarding the petrochemical industry. quite simply crude oil is not going to be around forever and most of us will probably experience the end of the petrochemical era within our lifetimes. Oil can be synthesised but as yet nobody can synthesise petrol and more r&d is going into alternative fuel sources. LPG is still derived from crude oil, ethanol ruins our engines and hydrogen cells are still only a theoretical device. Electric cars are crap - nobody wants to drive one and electricity is even more expensive to produce. Almost every major car company in the world has hydrogen cell research projects, but our governments seem hell bent on running our cars on ethanol. The question I ask - IS PURE ETHANOL A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO PETROL?

More Power

Hey guys n' Girls. Hows things?
I was after a little info and or help.
Im looking at hottin up the donk in me ol'e HZ Ute. But I cant decide if I want to supercharge it or chuck on tripple carbs. Of course i'll get a shortblock done to it, as well as a lumpy cam. But I'm just wanting to know which system would give me more grunt for my buck. ("So I can nail boyracers in their little ricebuckets off the lights" if you know what I mean) :)
I was looking at the rodshop supercharger, Is this anygood? If the supercharger system was the way to go.

Any help or tips would be great.
