HT Alternator bracket

Hi Guys. I am in the process of putting a 304 into a HT and have come accross an issue which i am sure has been solved by someone else before. The standard 304 Alternator bracket is too low and the alternator has no room for adjustment before hitting chassis rail.
I have heard of some guys putting in early commodore brackets that are on the drivers side. My question is, are they up higher and will early commodore (assuming 308 engine) bracket fit on a 304 head?
any information would guide me in the right direction.
thanks guys
