Locking Threads

Hi all,

In the process of re-assembling my tunna and I have come up with a question...

The tray support brackets are each held in place by 6 5/16 bolts. Having gone and bought nice new high-tensile bolts to replace the shabby old ones I have discovered that only a fraction over half of the 1 inch of thread is used...

This leaves me with 2 options... use the 1 inch bolts, with spring washers on each one, OR... Buy 1/2 inch long bolts, which leaves me with no room for spring washers. The 1/2 inch bolts have about half a turn of thread protruding from the nut when used without the spring washer (only finger tight, so a bit more with show when torqued up).

I was intending to loctite (medium strenght) all of the nuts anyway, and then paint over the whole lot, so...

No Yella Terra Heads.....

Hello,

Since no one responded to my earlier post regarding the availability of a yella terra head that is for sale....

My next port of call is..... are there any old style 'head gurus' still around who would like some work in modifying a standard 179 holden head to get it to flow well.....

Am Sydney based, but am willing to send it to the right person.

Will be wanting references for anyone who is recommended.

Cheers,

Martin.

What engine can I put in a HZ pannel van for a P plater

Hello,
I have just put a VR V6 engine in a HZ panel van for a kid who is getting his P plates as I thought that it would be a good option seeing he could not keep the 308 that was in it. I assumed that this would be OK as P platers are allowed to drive a V6 commodore (?) I am now wondering if this is an allowable modification? Can anyone shed some light on this for me. I am also putting a blue printed 186 with yellow terra heads and dual cards in a torana for another kid. Is this Ok also?

Tyres

Hey guys, the other day i bought 2 new rear tyres and they're 195s for the standard HQ kingswood rims, and i also got some second hand mags earlier, 2 are 7 inch wide and the rears are 8 inch wide. and i just found out two of the tyres on the mags have good tread. So my question is will the 195s fit on the 8s? and if not is it possible to trade back the tyres for a wider set or a refund so i can fit the tyres from the mags? I highly doubt it tho.

cheers

Vision 318-1600 diagram

Well I ended up removing the alarm to get this new VK to run.
During the removal I came across a few other issues that would have contributed to the car not running.
So I want to test the alarm unit to see if it was the issue. If it is alright I might refit it at a later date.
So can anyone help me out with a wiring diagram for a Vision 318-1600 alarm.
Cheers.

Question for those in the know !

Hey guys got a problem with the vn commy, after driving it for a while when you leave it for 10 or so minutes, you come back to it and it has trouble cranking.Battery and Alternator are only 18 months old. But the other day drove from toowoomba to goldcoast to brisbane then back to jimboomba, and car wouldn't crank and for some reason had no brake lights. Left car for close to 1 hour come back brake lights are all there and cranks over no worries. Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Roller rocker help for holden 6

G'day everyone, i have a little question for those who have had some experience with roller rockers on holden 6's?

I'm re-building a little 202, I've used all the goodies, complete re-build, ACL race series kit, 30 thou oversize, and Crow cam no. 35619 (Hydraulic cam and lifters) with the matching valve train kit no. K3503.

i have been speeking with yella terra and i got a set of rockers, Street terra no. ST 2007

the cylinder head is an old yella terra, originally painted yellow which i believe was the "stage 3" it has the bigger size spark plugs, the ones with the gaskets, not the taper. And they only made 161's and 186's with those spark plugs. the head has holden "factory" press fitted studs 3/8th, anyway the rockers i think were the right ones. BUT! i have found out that I'm missing a set of push rod guide plates. the rockers twist on the studs (the engine is on the stand and i have just tried them out loosely) I'm using crow hardened push rods that say "9.130 .080" which is something to do with the length, they are about 7.9mm wide or 5/16th and just squeeze through the holes in the head, the holes in the head are an oval shape, not round.

but id like to order yella terra guide plates, and out of the two part numbers i'm not really sure, YT 4986 and YT 4987. the '86 says 3/8th mount and a bloke from yella terra suggested the '87 which on the web site says there for screw-in studs, he said those ones ('87) because the push rods are 5/16th???

I'm confusing myself as well as probably everyone else lol, but why can't it be easy and have "one size fits all"!!!!!!

also I'm not sure if the push rods are the right length for the rockers?

anyway by getting a set of guide plates, will i then be able to simply "bolt 'em on and be confident they will work" or will i need to worrie about adjusting them and constantly and checking them for wear??

i will be checking this post for the next few weeks so ANY advise would be a great help!!!

PCV Help

G'day everybody, I have my car booked for the dyno next week so just trying to get everything sorted. I'm trying to connect my PCV system up, mind you it hasn't been connected for 2 years since a rebuild. There is some good information on this site that has helped me prepare, so I just need some confirmation. I have a 308 with a Holley 650 double pumper.

I need to connect one hose from a PCV valve to the vacuum of the carby. Is it ok to connect a T piece and share with the brake booster vacuum as the 650 has only one spot the right size?

I'm using premium ULP in my stock standard 307. Is there any point? Would standard ULP do the job just as well?

Options???

OK, so far i am aware that i can keep the [Naughty Pottyword]ty 4cyl the way it is, or dump a 6 in her.
The problems for me is that i cant do the replacement myself, and i dont want to be ****** over by any dodgy part time mechanic.

I am told i will need to replace the gearbox, engine, crossmember, suspension maybe, diff maybe, and cut out a new hole for the gear box as it sits further back in the 6cyl. Is this a major task i am thinking of undertaking???
Will it cost me thousands??

Are there any other options/mods i can do to keep the 4cly but give her enough power to comfortably cruise around the streets?? and maybe teach one of those little rice burners a lesson haha??
Or would any genuine good bloke like to have a look at this car for me?? i live in the geelong area.
Thanks again everyone
James
