Smooth Rider

Well, who would have thought, i have been driving around with completely stuffed controll arm for the last 14 months, the bushes had broken away from the arms at both ends on the rh upper, and the body mount on the rh lower, not good, but not like they were going to fall out, i just thought, yeah, ill have to replace those one day, and that day was today. Well, as i pulled the rh upper out, the bushes literaly fell out of it, but once again, they werent going anywhere when it was bolted in the car. Well, i fitted new Nolathane units, top and bottom, and new link pin bushes, and im am truly amazed at how much of a difference it has made, i have a m8 with same model and springs as me, but standard bushes, and it handled and felt exactly the same as mine, thats why i wasnt worried about the bushes, but the difference the nolathane units make is amazing, it traks better, rides smoother, more positive feedback of the road, and more stable on corners. If any of you are needing newies, i reccomend these, prices are pretty cheap, i paid 110+ for each pair of arms, and 37+ for the link bushes, dont know what retail price is, but you could probs get cheaper on ebay yet again.
If anyone else agrees with the statements ive made, or have fitted the nolathane to the front, let me know the difference they make.
Cheers, Bilbs

EH Gear Selection

HI All,
Just a quick question regarding gear selection. The old EH is getting a bit worn and the gear selector is no longer returing to the neutral position. Also, it is becoming quite and art to selecting the gears as the driver needs to position the gear selector perfectly otherwise it won't select.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to find replacement parts? I have had a look on the rarespares website and can't see anything that is close to what I am after. The other alternative is a floor shift, but I would prefer to keep the original column shift.

Another Restrictions Law, What next!!!!!

While at a guys place where I'm working, He showed me a blown 350 chev, in an EH Holden. With 650hp at the treads, It really looked spectacular, (hopefully in the next couple of weeks he will take me for a spin). Anyway he told me a new law was being released claiming that cars can no longer be fitted with an engine capacity greater than it was released from factory, even if it is engineered it is not allowed. All vehicles previous to this approaching february, will be exempt. However any after that will be dubbed illegal. I am in NSW, so it might differ in other states.

wiper pivot removal/replacement

i'm having a hell of a time removing the wiper pivot arms from my HZ. The passenger side comes out easily, the driver's side... NO WAY! is it physically possible to remove the driver's side pivot arm without removing the air vents and dash to get at the underside? it doesn't seem like there's physically enough room to pull the pivot down through the hole and out the side without unscrewing the pivot stays (for lack of the actual term). And the pivot stay is held on by three screws, one of which is impossible to get to. The wrecker actually used a chisel so open peel open the section to the left of the cowl plate, like a sardine can, to get at the screws. i'm not about to do that.

any help please!

also, the piece of metal that links the arms to the motor itself won't come off. i removed the nut and have tried the claw of a hammer to lever it off, but it's staying put like a bastard.

toyota gearbox Qs

is a toyota 4 speed input shaft the same as a 5 speed?
is the output spline the same as a 5 speed?

i ask because i have a conversion spigot that doesn't fit over the input shaft. my standard spigot came really close to fitting. it was a little loose.

i also bought a starfire engined corona tailshaft yoke, which is supposed to fit 5 speeds. but it doesn't fit mine.

what should i do? put the standard spigot back on? how tight do they have to be?

Ol' man down the road

Here's a pic for you FJ lovers. Belongs to a mate down the road (John). He's just got the new wiring harness in and has a few more small fiddly jobs to do to her then it's REGO time. Dunno how were going in the persuasion stakes but this SHOULD be John's daily driver.

Wb Choke problem

Hi there,
Have a blue 202 WB with a choke problem. Choke had been converted to manual but was a dodgy conversion and was more trouble than it was worth. Recently bought a new choke element ($110!!!) hooked it all up but the choke butterfly gets stuck about half way and half choke isn't enough to do the job. Playing around with it reveals the butterfly itself is loose and doesn't bind, but once you attach the choke elelment it jams. I thought it may be the butterfly arm coming into contact with the element casing, not so.
It turns out to be as soon as any tension gets onto the elements housing (ie the 3 screws to secure it) it binds, just the SLIGHTEST pressure on ANY of the 3 screws and it causes the butterfly to stick half way. I've tried shimming it, but no change. Needless to say I'm running around with a very loose choke element which isn't really suitable.

Anyone have any ideas on this one??
Cheers

the chipped bore from the bent rod

Image:

i think it will be ok to use still, but being turbo pattern its no real use to me as i want to keep the aussie manual in the car (later i want to put in a trimatic)
seing that its turbo pattern, dos that mean a v6 turbo box will bolt up without adaptor plate?
cheers
