VN heads

G'Day All. Cheers for all the advice on manifolds and LPG. Single plane seems the way to go. Any tips on what to get? Harrop is out. I don't want to cut the bonnet. New query on VN heads on old 308's. I've learn't that the bigger chambers on the VN heads is going to drop my compression ratio which is not ideal for LPG. If anything, I want to raise it to somewhere between 10 and 11 to 1. Can I do this simply with a set of domed pistons? Are these readily available? Do i need to deck the heads or block? I'm looking for the simplest solution(aren't we all!!!). Cheers, Mick.

OPTIMAL TEMPERATURE AND GAUGE INDICATOR

What is the optimal operating temperature of a 253 red motor in a LH Torana and where should the indicator needle be at the temperature gauge?

The following specifications are from my genuine GM workshop manual:
• Temp Gauge scale range is low 50degC, half 91degC and full 120degC.
• Thermostat starts to open at 81-82degc and fully open at 94degC.

Therefore based on the above specifications, the temperature gauge is not incremented equally, because the difference between low to half is greater than half to full.

Based on the specifications of the thermo operating temp, the needle on the temp gauge should be below the half indicator when it commences to open and over the half indicator when the thermo has fully opened.

Based on the above, is the ideal operating temperature of the motor greater than 94degC. Therefore, the temp gauge indictor needle should be always over the half indicator. The question is, what is the optimal operating temp and where should the temp indicator needle be on the gauge.

Thanks

speedo conversion

G'day all
I've started on an ecotec v6 conversion from a VT to a HZ sedan. All going well so far. I would like to retain the original GTS Speedo and have read on this site that mods have been done using the VN setup. Does any one know if this can be achieved with the VT setup. Any info or even a point in the right direction would be apreiciated.
Regards
Rog

WTB: Rims

G'day,

I've been a long time lurker and occasional anonymous poster. I figured it's about time I actually register.

I am looking for a decent set of rims for my HG monaro. I'd prefer Weld or Centrelines, but am open to anything thats reasonably priced and in good nick that suits the period of the car.

Perth pickup is preferable.

Posting here is fine, or you can send pics to padgett dot rowell at iinet dot net dot au with the 'Monaro' in the subject.

Cheers,

P.

dunt-dun-da-dar !

dunt-dun-da-dar !

The Sheds are back, Please remain seated and in an upright position.
I haven't fixed the root of the problem as yet as i have been flat out with housing some elderly people which is another story. Don't hammer them until I pull them down in a day or two to fix them properly.
[post edit: I should have known they'd get hammered, I'll pop them up when your not looking]

Help with cam specs

Hi. Ive got a cam off a mate that he's not going to use now. (sold car)
he never used it but he lost the cam spec sheet a long time ago (silly twit). It a Dynotec CM206D for a 202 blue/black. He says its pretty grunty but cant remember the exact specs. Does anybody know anything about this grind?
He did tell me that i'd have to get the spring seats on the head machined to fit the longer springs or they would bind because of the lift. Is that true for this cam.
My yella terra roller rockers are 1.5 ratio.

Torana Hatch

I have a Torana Hatchback that is now surplus to requirements. It's all in pieces as I took it right back to bare metal and it has absolutely no rust whatsoever.

It comes with all parts, glass etc..complete car plus heaps of spares as well as a 308 + aussie 4-speed.

Anyone interested?...email me at spazzmo100*NOSPAM* at hotmail dot com (remove *NOSPAM* obviously).

Car is in Queenbeyan near Canberra.

Hk steering

Hi i recently purchased a Hk steering box off ebay, said to be reconditioned, it all looks new but when you turn the lever it has a real smooth action but a bit over halfway it gets a bit tight for a second but you can get past it, seems a bit dangerous, could this just be the adjustment on top, can someone explain how the adjustment works. thanks.

HR Dash

Hey all, i have a HR special sedan, and underneath my dash is rusted out, where the vents usually run from the bonnet. I was wondering whether anyone had a HR with all of that area in good condition that they could take a photo of and send to me, so i can have a basic idea of what it should look like and have a go at repairing it.
If anyone has any pictures please email mattyalexander@hotma...
