HZ steering rack

Hi all, my two sons and I have bought an HZ and it is a great car but needs a few things for roadworthy (petty things I reckon in general) but anyway, I was wondering if anyone can help me with the following.

I need to replace a whole host of bushes on the suspension, which I think is a good idea in any case, but I thought I may aswell change the springs and dampers at the same time. Can anyone give advice on what are the best makes and sizes to use. I thought it would be nice to drop the car just an inch or so. It has a 202 in at the moment but I would like to fit a V8 at some time. I would imagine the weight difference would complicate things - any advice would be appreciated.

Also, although it didn't fail on the roadworthy, I would like to see if I can convert it to rack and pinion (with power aswell). I can imagine this is a fair sized job and would need an engineers cert. Is this possible and if so, where can I get the parts etc.

Any other general advice and information on pitfalls would very much appreciated.

External Visor

Hey people
Can anyone supply or tell where to see photos, in detail, of the front external visor for a HT sedan? All help will be gratefully recieved.

EK's... are sex on wheels

just so you all know.. I am now completely in love with EK's.. a really nice chick i met not long ago scored a freakin near perfect specimen for 2000 bucks..( I expressed my extreme jealousy)It has some rust around the windows seals. doors etc. but its so bloody good!! Ill post pics up soon. most of the rust is barely visible at first glance.

Hq Fuel Sender

I have a HQ GTS dash in my tonner and got a fuel sender out of wb tonner. It does not work, and I have heard theyr are diffrent senders, Early HQ and the other magnetic type (later models). My questions are...

For the GTS dash do I need the early HQ type?

Is there a visible diffrence between the two types (early and magnetic) so that I can tell which is which?

And are Sedan and Ute fuel senders compatible with the Tonner Senders?

Rust Question

Gday all, Ripped the front end out of the prem today so I can do all the bushes and balljoints.
I'de found a bit of rust around the front of the subframe and radiator support (not too much of a drama to fix) but, had a look at the crossmember mount only to find they weren't there. Well they sort of were, but in little bits :)
Does anyone make these to be welded in or do I have to make them myself? I can do it but I reckon it will be a huge pain in the backside to do it.

253 - an efficiency oddessy

I've just finished the last of the tweaks to my 253. In a pretty short period of time I've exchanged the WW stromberg for a near new quadrajet, built a cold air intake, removed the clutch fan and replaced with twin 12" thermos, added electronic ignition and an electric water pump.

Power output is now a tad over 120kW at the rear wheels but the really satisfying part is how the motor wants to rev and the power delivery. You can really notice that there are less things to "accelerate" - I suppose its like the effect of lightening the flywheel. Not having the clutch fan and the water pump combined with how well the 4-barrel manifold and quaddie flows on a 253 really turns a torquy motor into a little screamer.

I'd love to know what the fuel economy is like if driven sensibly but everytime I take it for a spin I can't help putting the foot to the floor! As the revs build it just pulls harder and harder. It just doesn't let up until its time to change gear (about 4800 is where peak HP's at). Even if you hold a gear a bit longer and use some of the over-rev you don't feel much of a loss of acceleration.

Basically I'm pretty bloody happy and would recommend these mods to anyone whose 253 feels a little "choked". Actually, I'd probably not recommend the twin 12" thermos. They seem to be having some difficulty keeping things cool. I'm running them without a shroud using a custom fabricated aluminium brackets. I think that a shroud is probably essential to get them working at their best.

Does anyone know of a thermo fan/shroud set-up that will fit the HZ radiator? I was going to use a set-up off a Gen III but it was too big to fit. I've heard rumours that a f@#d AU electric fan/shroud is the go? Anyone got any ideas?

The intake manifold...

The intake manifold destined for the tunna... yes polished just like that one, right off the local speedway champ's sprint car (its getting unbolted this weekend).
looks like a scoop maybe needed ? depending on how this carb adapter I made sits.

Fouled plugs

Hey guys, have a bit of a problem with the 186 where my numbers 1, 5, and 6 plugs are getting completly covered in carbon after only about 2 weeks of running. The others look fine however the number 2 is also getting a bit of build up whereas 3 and 4 are totally clean. As you can imagine this is causing mayhem with my driving with backfires and spluttering occuring all the time. I have changed the leads and am running BPR5ES NGK plugs.

Any help on what might be causing this and how to go about fixing it would be great.

speedo cable length???

hi guys, um quick question...and excuse the ignorance but, ive decided to put in a 5 speed celica into my HR and was wondering what length speedo cable should i be using??? the fellow at the shop said there are 2 lengths...1.6m and 2m, what length should i use??? thanks guys for your help!!!

throttle cable bracket

i have just replaced the 350 with a 600 vacuum secondary holly. now, my throttle cable is very slack at the carby end. i'm guessing the home made, modified version of retaining brackets isnt suited. so what i am chasing is a holden v8 cable and spring return brackets, genuine or close enough.

Looking for EH ute bench seat

Hi guys
I'm looking for a bench seat for my EH ute. Does anybody have one they want to sell? I'll be removing the existing buckets and retrimming the entire cab so I'm mainly concerned with finding a bench that is structurally A1 - cover is not as important.

4x CSA Velociy 16x7.5 With Tyres For Sale In Adelaide

Hey guys bought my new rims today these are my old ones for sale.
4x CSA Velociy 16x7.5 With Tyres. Two of the rims are in ok condition, one rim very bady scratched about half diameter, the last scratched with very big chunk missing. These scratches etc arnt all that noticably from a distance lol. One tyre in very good condition the other three worn to the indicator or steel belts if not sold quickly. Going price $350 ono.

WB STATO Vacuum and Heater Diagram

Hello, I have had a fair bit of work done to my stato however I am having some dramas getting the heater to work through the controller. If you wire the valve open on the heater hose it will work and I have replaced that as well.

Previously I have replaced the controller I am guessing that there is still...something amiss in the vacuum system. Does anyone have a diagram? Since I rebuilt the engine, transmission etc etc and put in a new dash controller (WB) the heater has never worked. Several places have looked at it and I have not received any resolution. I have modified the vacuum system again today installing a reservoir due to the engine mods giving the trannie a hard time, finally I have now got the set up right for the Tri Trannie. But still the heater is eluding me, I am little unhappy about spending more time blundering around under the dash board rather than under the bonnet or in the drivers seat.

Does the heater have anything to do with emission controls, mine was partly removed as the stato is now on gas.

What are the lengths of HK-HG, HQ-WB & VB-VK 10-bolt axles?

Is it possible to swap HQ-WB or VB-VK 10-bolt axles into an HK-HG 10-bolt diff to swap the stud pattern? I think HQ-WB would be too long and VC-VK too short. I just thought I'd check and see if anyone has axles from either of these 3 series of models lying around, maybe they could measure them or if you have a whole diff, maybe measure from inside axle flange to axle flange.
