rice burner crash

hey all see that rice burner crash in the pole and split into 2, i know i am a few days late but still interesting to get people opinion on it, now it was like 160 in a 50 zone, what a crazy wanker, i reckon its rediclious

Starving ?

I'm happy to say my EH converty is now with its new owner in Gladstone. I'm very pleased with the deal which included a lovely EH auto wagon. Except its missing a bit and occasionally stalling. Plugs and leads have been swapped with no effect but I think its starving for fuel. The (new) fuel filter is almost bone dry and the pump bowl is almost full but fuel doesn't cover the mesh filter, it just kind of laps up at the sides.
Is there a way to test for fuel starvation ?

VL VERY THIRSTY

Hi, My VL wagon seems to be very thirsty to me. Is this a normal problem with the VL or do you think something might need checking? Thanks to anyone who might be able to suggest something.

front swap...

hey fellas,
just wondering how easy it is to swap (eg-same bolt holes? parts needed etc) a WB front with a HZ front. Already have the nose, radiator support, and guards.
Are the bonnets and the inner guards the same?

wiper stalk

hi ive just fitted a wiper stalk into my hq, ive joined the wires to the original wiring but from the stalk there is another 3 wires,
2 are black with a white trace
1 is orange
where do these go as the wipers arent working, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the newer model stalk? thanks

G'day I have a red 202, in ,my swb series 3 landy. It's been recently rebuilt approx 35,000k's ago and want to know what fuel I can run it on. Premuim is so expensive and LPG has no upper cylinder lubricant. Anyone got an answer?

HELP

Hey all, thanks for the responses and thomo I will be in touch (in out in werribee) but now i have a hella big problem. Here i was this arvo only a few hours after picking up the ute i just bought and wouldnt u know it...I had smoke pouring out from the under carriage. When i finally was able to pull over I noticed that the transmission was pouring out fluid. after letting it cool down it looks like that the fluid is leaking from a hole in the housing. ( IS this possible?) I am totally comnfused in regards to this matter!! I have a quick shift thingy but no idea wot type of trans i have...so what do i do? I have been told of a couple options i could do...

Exhaust valve recession

This is valve recession due to running no added lube when on gas.........VN v6 230,000km's .....the exhaust valves pulled up 3.64mm enough to collapse the lifters and hold the valves open causing the motor to misfire badly.....
Had hardened valves and seats factory fitted to suit unleaded but they did not cut the mustard when it came to gas......
use lube!! when running gas......

HG stud pattern

Gday guys,
i have a HG prem that is sitting on good new performance 15x7 wheels, but i want to put a set of 17 inch chromies on her.So i want to change my brakes/stud pattern to get these wheels on as they suit commodore, is this expensive and what are the best brakes(commodore) to get??

1970 HT ute Engine upgrade from 186 red to 253????

I am thinking of upgrading my Ht ute 186 red motor to a 253 for greater power as the 186 is lacking power. I am very new to the game of car mechanics and would love to do this myself at home and not pay a shop to do this. I currently have a celica 5 speed attached as well as torana disc brakes all round. I need some help as to whether the 253 and g/box would bolt together and does the 253 bolt straight into place of the 186?? or do i need to play with mounts in the bay. I I am assuming that that the drive shaft and diff needs to be upgraded aswell but since there is no books on this i need help from you guys, Any help with this whole process would be excellent..

HG 253 shuddering clutch

Any ideas on why is my clutch shuddering? I replaced the 161 3 speed with a 253 3 speed. Clutch that came with the box looked good and wrecker said it drove fine. Engine doesn't drop oil but clutch shudders like an earthquake, especially in reverse. Went to a clutch specialist, said it needed replacing and flywheel machining, done all that, still shudders like all hell. Then he says that model had troubles with shuddering clutches when the mechanical linkages get sloppy. Thanks for waiting till then to tell me!. Welded and filled all linkages, no slack, still shudders. Swapped linkages with two other cars whose clutches work fin, one of which is a factory 253 3 speed, still shudders. What am I missing here? Engine mounts are new, could it be axle hop due to lowering blocks? Swapping to an hydraulic system is easy enough to do but still a biggish job I don't won't to do if I still have the same problem.

will a celica 5 speed handle my 308's tourque?

Will the 5 speed Celica gearbox be able to handle my motor?

I am looking at having about 230kw's once the exhaust is changed?

Yella Terra stuff

Hey guys, I have a full set of yella terra valves and double valve springs which are sitting in my shed at the mo' so I thought I might sell them. They are out of a 186/202 head and are in reasonable condition. I am gonna stick them on ebay soon but I thought I might give you guys a chance to make me an offer first if anyone is keen?

HZ 308 Rebuild Running Sluggish

Gday need help from the experts because I am not one.
I have a HZ 308 Prem which has been rebuilt and the following changes have been made to the stock motor. Electronic ignition, changed to unleaded, original factory aircon installed and new cam put in apparently for greater power because of unleaded (sorry not sure what cam but a bit tinny at the low rev end)
The car seems to be running so sluggish and crap and just doesn't sound right. There also seems to be a stronger than usual fuel smell from exhaust.
I checked the timing for the first time since getting the car back and it seems to be about 16-17 degrees advance (btdc). There were no more marks left on the advance side to accurately measure. Is this right....should it be this much? Or if it is sluggish does it need more which I thought would have been too much. Also my spark plug gaps are at about 1.35mm. Is this ok and does this greatly affect timing and would I need to change standard heat range plugs after all the changes (The original factory spec says 12 degrees at 1350rpm and plug gaps .08mm)

Motorvation 2005

Hello to all Perthies,
As motorvation is up and coming soon, was thinking that we should maybe have another Perth meet and make it a day down at motorvation. Maybe even setup our own tent or something and have an oldholden.com stand/display.
As a lot of us will have projects finished by then, and everyone else with their lovely prides and joy then i reckon it would be awesome to meet up at a spot and then take a cruise down the freeway and watch big long line of old holdens taking up the road.
Any thoughts. Who would be up for that
